�I�m sure everything�s alright,� Alexander said.
�How did Nick sound when he called? Was he all worried and panicky? Or all cool and calm?� She looked at him.
�He didn�t seem worried.�
�But she�s in the hospital so something�s wrong.�
�It�s probably nothing. It was probably something Nick didn�t know how to take care of and he got scared.� She looked at him again, as they walked up to the nurses� station.
�May I help you?� the nurse asked.
�Jacqueline Montgomery, please,� Alexander replied. �She was brought in earlier.�
�Dr. Carey is taking care of her,� the nurse said pointing.
�Thank you,� Alexander said, as they looked and saw Nickolas and Dr. Carey.
�Nick,� Eva said hurrying to him and the doctor walked away. �How�s Jackie? Is she ok?�
�Um�� Nickolas began, �she had to be quarantined.� Eva just looked at him not understanding. �Not only does Jack have the flu, but she also has bronchitis and pneumonia on top of it. Dr. Carey needs to keep her a couple days.�
�I thought you were taking care of her?� Eva snapped.
�I was,� Nickolas said. �I didn�t know this was going to happen and neither did the doctors.�
�As long as she was staying with you she was your responsibility, Carter, and no one else�s.�
�What did you want me to do?�
�Take care of her the right way and not let her get sicker.�
�Eva, calm down,� Alexander said. �Jackie�s going to be fine.�
�You don�t know that,� Eva said.
�And neither do you,� Alexander said and Eva looked at him. �Let the doctors take care of her and get her better.�
�I just don�t want anything to happen to her,� Eva said.
�Nothing will,� Nickolas said. �She�s in the hospital now.�
�And not at home with you,� Eva said. �Thank God.� Nickolas sighed.
�I did the best I could,� Nickolas said. �You can only do so much at home.�
�But you didn�t do enough,� Eva stated. �You just got her pregnant and left her get sick.� Nickolas didn�t say anything and Eva walked away.
�I�m sorry about that,� Alexander said.
�It�s not your fault so don�t apologize,� Nickolas said.
�She�s my girlfriend.�
�And my girlfriend�s best friend.� Alexander nodded. �I didn�t know she was getting worse. I thought she was getting better.�
�I�m sure it was just a simple mistake, Nick. People make them all the time.�
�Yeah.� Nickolas sighed.
�You�re not the reason Jack got sicker.�
�I know that, but if I did a little more to��
�You�re not at fault, Nick. God wanted it this way for a reason.� Nickolas sighed.
�I just don�t know what to do for her. She was never this sick and when she was sick she would never leave me take care of her.�
�She didn�t leave you or you didn�t want to?� Nickolas looked at him. �You didn�t want to, did you?�
�Sure I did; she just wouldn�t leave me.� Alexander nodded. �I love helping Jack and hate it when I can�t.�
�Ok.� Nickolas looked in Jacqueline�s room and watched her and Eva. �Nick, is Jack pregnant?� Nickolas didn�t say anything. �Is that why you�re so upset with her being sick?� He still didn�t say anything. �She is isn�t she?� Nickolas cleared his throat.
�Uh��
�Nick, Jack�s asking for ya,� Eva interrupted and they looked.
�Alright,� Nickolas said.
�Nick, you didn�t answer my question,� Alexander said and Nickolas looked at him a second then went into Jacqueline�s room.
�What was your question?� Eva asked.
�If Jackie�s pregnant,� Alexander replied.
�Oh.�
�I�m really beginning to think she is with the way he�s been acting since she got sick.�
�Right.�
�What do you think?� She looked at him. �Why doesn�t anyone want to tell me anything anymore? It�s like I don�t matter to anyone anymore.�
�Oh, Baby, you matter to me.� She hugged him.
�So then tell me something that�s going on with someone.� She looked at him again. �Is my best friend�s girlfriend pregnant?� She sighed.
�I really shouldn�t say anything, Alex. I promised Jack that I wouldn�t.�
�Who am I going to tell, Ev? Don�t you trust me?�
�Of course I trust you.�
�Then why can�t you trust me with this?� They looked at each other.
�I�m sorry.�
�It�s ok.�
�I just hate Jack being in the hospital.�
�I understand.� They looked at each other a few moments and Eva looked in Jacqueline�s room.
�If I tell you, do you promise you won�t say anything to Jackie or Nick or anyone for that matter?�
�I promise.�
�I trust you with this.�
�I promise.�
�Alright.� She sighed. �Yes Jack is pregnant and she�s 2 � months along.� Alexander looked at her surprised. �Now you can�t tell anyone, because they didn�t even tell their parents yet.�
�I promise I won�t say anything.�
�Thank you.�
�What�d all Jackie say?�
�Not that much. She was in and out of it and Dr. Carey doesn�t want her to talk that much.� Alexander nodded in understandment. �She just made me promise not to say anything to anyone about her being pregnant. Her and Nick are afraid with Jack being sick and all.�
�Afraid they might lose the baby?�
�Yeah.�
�How are you doing?� She shrugged and he put his arms around her.
�Jack�s always wanted a baby and it might happen now and there�s a possible chance she might lose it.�
�I�m sure everything will be fine. The doctor�s are taking care of her and they caught it; hopefully in time.�
�I guess it�s in God�s hands now.�
�Yes it is.� She sighed and laid her head on his shoulder.
