This program's name is InfoFinder. It is both a stand-alone application and an applet.
It is what is commonly known as a web-bot. You can use this program to download media (images, videos, audio, documents, miscellaneous files) from websites (for example the search results from www.google.com) and don't want to deal with the pop-up windows or annoying advertising. If you want to download documentation from a variety of webpages that have been returned to you by a search engine (i.e. type in "public key infrastructure" in google, then copy/paste the returned search results page into the program, and tell the program to only download documents - you can even further specify the titles of those documents you want). There are great number of permutations of search criteria you can set, so I'm sure you can come up with your own ideas.
If, however, you are at a loss as to how you could use this program, click here for some suggestions I came up with.
Current Limitations - i.e. things to be fixed
There is a large number of search criteria to set. As a default, I've set the program to download NONE of the different types of media (documents, images, video, and audio). Also by default, the program isn't using any search criteria (i.e. it will just follow any links it finds and not download anything but webpages). NOTE: YOU CAN CHANGE THAT BY USING THE DOWNLOAD LINK ON THE PROGRAM!!!
Here are some tips and tricks on using the tool more efficiently
If you would like to run this application ("InfoFinder") as a stand alone application, instead of as an Applet, then
right click on this link
This will download the same jar file that is being used on this webpage to run the applet - yes, I want to make it clear that I've created a java application that is both an applet and a stand-alone application :)
If you decide to run my program as a stand-alone application (i.e. not from this webpage). There is one step you will have to take in addition to downloading the file to your computer -> click here for those instructions
I'm quite keen to get feedback on this program, so please if you have any suggestions feel free to send me an e-mail
