"Bruce Almighty-Bruce's Cave"
This movie reminded me very
much of Plato's Allegory of the Cave. At the beginning of the movie, Bruce is
upset with the way his life is going. He is not happy with the job he has, the
apartment he lives in, or the car he is driving. He eventually gains all the
powers of God. He uses these powers to fix what he thinks are his problems in
life. He quickly realizes that these things have only made his life worse. Soon
he gives his powers back to God, realizing that humans don't understand what
they want, and therefore shouldn't be given the power to have what ever they
want. At one point in the movie Morgan Freeman, portraying God says,
"Yeah, but since when does anyone have a clue what they want?" Like
the people in the Cave, Bruce, like the rest of us, doesn't truly know what he
wants until the end of the movie. He understands that the material things
weren't what he wanted, but instead he wanted love. This is the moment when he
leaves the Cave, he forgets about his job, his house, his money, and gets back
together with his girl friend and soon marries her. Bruce's life takes a major
turn and he becomes happier then he's ever been.
