1. Summary of key idea.
There are many challenges to our Faith that the world gives us. Some of the most common are science, consumerism, and atheism. Each of these has their own strengths and weaknesses in their ideas. Different people maybe be challenged by different ideas and in different ways.
2. Two
important ideas.
The Catholic view of Science and Faith. This is an important idea to me because I, being a Catholic, often question the view of science if it seems to contradict with the churches teachings. The Catholic view of science and faith basicly states that nither science or faith will contradict eachother since the come from the same truth. According to the readings book, if there is ever a contradiction between the two, it is because either the theologians or the scientists made a mistake, and the matter must be investigated more thoroughly.
History of the Relationship between Science and Faith.
I found this section in the reading book to be extremely interesting because it seems to be extremely accurate. The section describing the ages of 15-21 almost perfectly describes the relationship that I have with my parents. Many times if I ask my parents if I can do something and the answer is no, I ask them to explain to me why they say no. Many times they have no answer at all, or if the do its the dreaded, because I said so. It seems to me that if they are going to limit my freedoms, they should have reasons for doing so, and if the reasons are antiquate I would gladly obey. I also wonder, however, if this description is only aimed at males, because I have an older sister in the age range and she has never had and of these ideas.
3. One
image that reminds me of the topic.
Greatest challenges to faith.
I think that the greatest challenges to our faith her and now are consumerism, and science. Almost all of us, at least in America are guilty of consumerism, we all have much more than we need. Is this ok? Even if there are people in the world who are starving? Science, although I dont this is as big a challenge as consumerism, is also a challenge to our faith. I think going to a Catholic school has helped me personally with this problem. Many people think that Catholics believe everything in the bible and that they shun science. However, many times it is those people who have not taken the time to figure out the truth. Science however is still a challenge, with science advancing very far, people think that they can get all the answers to their lives problems with science, so they throw away Faith.
