I'm Moving to El Paso....FINALLY!!! (Good Bye New York, New York part 1) ![]() Finally the wait is over..... My final day of living in new york is 02/27/2008. You have no Idea what I went through to get to this day. There were a lot of paperwork issues that shouldn't have existed, and it wasn't the apartment management's (the one I'm moving into) fault. It was the people on the New York end. The only thing I needed was a letter from the N.Y.C.H.A management that stated that I never was evicted because due to an error on my credit report. All they had to do was fax the letter to the managment in el paso. There was a lot of drama with the issue because every time the apartment management in el paso called to enquire about the letter, the N.Y.C.H.A management was never there, so then finally I had to go there in person and then I got the run around. Now I'm starting to flip out because the clock to get this apartment was ticking, and just when I was at my wits end, I find out the letter was mailed out to me a few days ago. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS FAX THE LETTER!!!!! IT WOULD OF BEEN EASIER!!! After all of that was done with I took a deep breath and figured out this was a test from God to see if I really did want to move. So after I got the thumbs up I went to el paso to sign the lease and get the keys. The assitant manager at the office asked were all new yorkers mean like the mangement at my N.Y.C.H.A. I told her that when you live in a "bad neighorhood" People tend not to care as much, but all of New York was not like that, and if you live there you have to have a survivalist attuide. So after I got the keys I walked into my new apartment which was nicely cleaned and when I went to "reclean" certain areas such as the bathroom and the kitchen, I found out there was no need to because as I went to clean and wipe everything down there was no dirt. They only thing in the whole apartment that had some dirt on it was the ceiling fan in the bedroom. The apartment was cleaner than most hotels I been in. My apartment is on the ground floor with the and I have a patio with a storage shed. There's a laundry room in the complex and you can rent DVD's from the management office. The shopping mall is a short 15 minute bicycle ride away or 7 mintues by car. The mountains are literally down the street. I pay rent, and the electric, the water and gas are combined together but it's set up so that it's based on a copay system. The gas and the water use of the whole complex (that the tenents use) is combined together and then is split and divided equally among everyone, which I think is fair because it makes you conserve and think twice before you waste resources. They should apply that in the public housing system. Everytime management has to pay money to paint the because some knuckle heads want to tagg their name all over the place, then everyone have to pay for the bill. But I know that's not going to happen so I'm not going to ramble on about it. But all too soon I had to go back to new york and shut things down here. After actually looking at the apartment I realized that I have to throw out alot more stuff, which I did, and now everything that I'm going to take with me is packed up and ready for the movers tomorrow. After the movers take everything, I'm going to clean up the apartment and then do a few other things, and then thursday morning I'm going to take the train one last time to JFK airport and if everything works out I'll be in el paso by 2pm mountain time. But this doesn't mean I'll never come to new york city ever again. I'll visit again someday. There will be no place like new york city and it'll make no sense in trying to compare another city like it. What is el paso like? Well it'll be a culture shock for a new yorker. For one thing there are very little trees, mostly rocks, dirt, and desert plants. If you come to el paso in the summer, look out! The heat will slap you in the face (but it's a dry heat). The winter feels like what early spring would be in new york but it can snow. Everything and everyone here runs at a slower pace, I had forgot that and I had to force my self to slow down. When I went to Target to do my shopping it was quiet scary to find out that the lines wasn't a mile long, and you didn't have to husle around people to get anything like at the Target in brooklyn. Another thing that a New Yorker would notice right off the back is that everyone is very poliet. And Everything is a whole lot cheaper (gas $2.95....movies less than $11.00). If you're a type of person that needs something different to do or some place different to visit all the time el paso will get tiredsome very fast and will most likily not be the place for you to live. Also public transportation is not the same like new york. In the end I'm glad that all of my hard work paid off. I even brought me a flat screeen t.v., something I would never have done if I was still living in new york. Later on when I more settled in, I'll get me a vehicle. 2008-02-23 21:18:16 GMT
