Tigoness is going to ride in bike nyc
May 6th 2007, I will once again take part in bike new york, the once a year bike tour of the five broughs of new york city. The total trip is 42 miles and it starts in downtown mahattan and ends in Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island. All the traffic will be sealed off in route, and you get access to highways bridges that are normal not accessble to bike riders like the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge! I didn't bother "getting in shape" for the ride because bike riding is what I do almost on a daily bases, and 4 days a week I ride my bike to work from the central islip train station which is a 4 mile round trip journey in additon to the 1/2 mile ride getting to the train from home. which comes up to 5 miles 4 days a week (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get my transfer from central islip in long island to a closer location in jamica queens. The total trip to work is almost a 3 hour commute! If I have to be at work at 9AM I have to wake up at 6 in the morning to get ready!). Also I was in bike ny before back in 2002 I think. This time around I'm going to bring my camera and take a lot of pictures. If you want to you still have time to sign up go to http://www.bikenewyork.org the cut off point to sign up on line is apirl 23. after that you'll have to go in person at the offices. I graduated from EMT-B class back in march. I still didn't get any job offers from any of the 17 private ambulance companies that I applied to. I got a response from the F.D.N.Y. for a fitness assessment test (I was surpised that I got a respesonse from F.D.N.Y so fast!) I had to change the date for that because I got the letter less than a week before the test. There was no way I was going to get in shape enough for the test in less than a week. I could of took a chance and take the test anyway, but if I'd fail I would have to wait 3 months to take the test again. The physical test invovled assessing your upper body strength, which is kind of my weak point (and the fact I injuried my left hand while I was in the army). I'm currently going to the gym at fort hamiltion 3 days a week to work out on the weight machines. I planing on also getting my national E.M.T-B certifcation. I'm planing on moving out of new york, in the distant future, and having national E.M.T. certifcation will be a big plus. But if I'm hired by F.D.N.Y, I'll stay in new york... 2007-04-15 13:40:14 GMT
