EMT-B clinical rotations....not bad
feburary 10th I finally had my EMT-B clinical rotations. We had five calls that day. The first four were uneventful, a homeless guy, two suizure patients, and a eldery lady. The last was a man in respiratory arrest breathing at 6 breaths a mintue. I helped the paramedics ventilate the man using the bag valve mask while they tried to intubate him. Even though the man was very sick, I think he was a fighter because the paramedics was unable to put that tube down his throat. So while we were in the ambulance in route to the hospital, (with me still squeezing that BVM,) the paramedics had to knock the guy out with I.V. meds so that they could sucessfully intubate him. So in the end we got the guy to the ER alive. Which was a good thing, and I got some brownie points on my Evaluation. I knew that things would of been totally different if my rotation happened in the summer. But with one more month to go, I hope I pass that darn N.Y. State EMT test in march. It's not easy because we started with like 40 something people and we're now down to like 24, and I think it's going to be less than that at the end, but I'll hate to see that happen.
