A normal female trying to live in a competitive world...Okay scratch that! There's nothing sane here...
It's not THAT hot outside....

There's a heat alert notice posted downstairs in the lobby.  On the news they say that the heat index is like 102 but it's actually 99 degrees, and they are talking about how scorching it is outside. But I have one thing to say about that....

It is not that hot outside!!  I just spent 3 years in el paso texas, a place where it's almost 107 degrees everyday in the summer.  And Iraq was sometimes worse that that. I remember the first month I was in el paso and I had left my wallet in my truck and anything in there that was plastic melted. My driver licease and my bank cards melted together  in one Play-Doh glob. I had the inconvince of having to get all those cards reissued again.

When it got really hot in el paso they did tell people to drink water, check on the childern and the elderly. But they didn't go crazy about how sizzling hot it is because talking about would only make it worse.

People now days can't stand a little bit of discomfort. As soon as it get's hot everyone runs to the nearest A.C. The best defense against the heat is the heat itself. Your body has to get used to the heat and if you stay inside a A.C. room all day and then go outside you'll just only get hotter. Plus the A.C. will eat up your money in electric bills.  This is why I don't have an A.C. (also the fact that I'll get charged extra on my rent for having one). So how do I keep cool? I do what my late grandma used to do, have fans.

A couple of well placed fans can keep you nice and comfortable just as well as an A.C.  A ceiling fan works wonders. I have two ceiling fans my grandma had brought before she died. They are still unpacked, but now it'll make no sense in putting them up because I'm going to move in a year anyway. So I have one of those steel indrustrial sized fans (Which I brought from costco 3 years ago for $180) which cools my living room and the kitchen nicely on medium (I could set it on high but then every single thing that weighs less than a paper weight will get blown around). In my bedroom I have two regular fans set at different positions in the room. I also keep my window shades down during the day, and keep the lights off during the day until it get's too dark to read. That helps keep the apartment cool too.  After doing all of that I still manage to keep my elecrtic bill under 48 dollars a month. My apartment is now 84 degrees. It's not A.C. cold but it's still a whole lot better than outside.
