A normal female trying to live in a competitive world...Okay scratch that! There's nothing sane here...
Is this a birthday gift, or a coincidence?

After searching and searching and searching for a job, I was looking at the home depot website to compare tool prices and I just happened to see the employment link and I was like "what the heck I'll check it out". Long story short, I saw that a new home depot was opening up in Central Islip in Long Island and they were hiring. Now I knew this was about a hour drive away in good traffic, and since I no long have a vehicle I wasn't going to apply, but I decided to check it out first.

After looking up the directions on mapquest.com and comparing the location with the nearest LIRR stations, I found out not only I could take the train there but I could walk to the Home Depot from the train station or I could take one of those $5 cabs that be hounding people as soon as they come out the train. For now I rather walk. It's only 1.82 miles (which is about a 20-30 mintue walk.Walking is good for you!Image).

I wasn't about to let this one slip away. I applied on-line and I got an e-mail to go for an interview.  After talking to the store manager I proud to say that I got hired. I'm even getting paid a decent wage. Once I get past the 90 day probationary period, I'm in the clear(on the down low I know that most companies can fire you for any reason during the probationary period but since this is a brand new store I'm not THAT worried).

My position is *******(and no, I'm not going to tell which department for obvious reasonsImage).  I choose to work part time because I was planning to go back to school and finish my B.S. degree. Now I just waiting for my vetern's benfits to clear. Once that's done I can use  my G.I. bill. Home Depot was okay with that. They told me to let them know when I want more hours.

Now I have to start my orientation/training and I start...the weekend of my birthday.  My birthday is on june 18th which is coincidently father's day. Insteading of celabrating my 28th birthday I'll be....training. Well this beat's having to spend  my birthday in Iraq not too long ago. Am I complaining? Oh HELL NO!! I got a job and I'm getting paid to for the training. plus it's 8 days long. There's a few days in which I don't have to go, but do I really want to miss days that I could get paid? I guess this is my birthday gift and one that will hopefully last for a while.

Opening day for the Central Islip Home depot is on june 28th. If you're into Home Depot and live in the area I suggest you go that day. They may have some type of Grand Opening thing going on. My "first" day of work is on june 30th. I'm curious to know what the work enviroment is like for the employees. I don't shop in Home Depot that much(but that may change since I found out about the home depot on 23rd st in manhattan. I'm still catching up on stuff in new york since I came out the army) since there's not that many near by. But from what I seen from shopping in a few of the Home Depot's I've been in, the workers don't seem stress out or anything and they are pretty helpful.  If there are any Home Depot employees out there can anyone of you give me a heads up so I can know what to expect?
