A normal female trying to live in a competitive world...Okay scratch that! There's nothing sane here...
Tigress not feelin' right

I haven't been on line for the last few days because I've been feeling sick.

Monday and tuesday I've been out all day for my search for a job.....without sucess. I've been to a total of 15 places in the last two days and all I got was different verisons of "No, I not going to hire a female to work on the cars in my shop!"  Here are a list of the few verisons of  "No I'm not going to hire a female"

1. (from a auto dealer) "Sorry, based on the information you gave me, you are a "C" tech...We are looking for "B" techs." (Note:I have 3 years of automotive expericance and I have a N.Y.S  state inpection certification for light vehicles! And to get a NYS inpection certification You need over one year of automotive expericance! A "C" tech is a person who just learning the ropes( A person fresh out of techincal school). )

2.(From a major auto parts/car repair center in jamaica Queens.)"I had a female work for me before and she couldn't handle it.And anyway I'm looking for some one with an inpection license (I then show the store manager my inpection license). Oh, uh.... We're looking for some with  ASE certification(I show him my ASE certification for brakes/steering). You misunderstood me, we are currently looking for a Master ASE mechanic, but when an opening is available I'll let you know.  I'll keep your on-line appalcation on file."

3.(From a oil lube/wheel alignment/tire store in brooklyn)Service Manager(laughing after looking at my resume, and all of my certifications including my us army mechanical training diploma. Well at least this guy is honest)"Sorry we are not hiring at this time."

4.(From one of those oil change/car wash places in mahattan)"The boss is on vacation....come back tomorrow.(I return the next day) The boss is going to be on vacation for a month, so he is not hiring right now."

The next one below is my favorite.....

5.(From a oil change/car wash place in brooklyn)"We had a guy that just left to move back to puerto rico, come back  tomorrow (I return the next day). Oh, I'm sorry he came back.....When I have an opening I call you."

I would post the next ten but that'll take up too much in the blog entry. I knew it was going to be hard for a female mech to get a job. But the thing that gets to me is that none of these places even gave me an "audition", to show them what my skills are. If they had tried me out for a day and then said no, I'll be a little understanding. I'd figure some of them would give a female vetern who just came out of iraq a little break. I called my former 1st sergent and told him of my job hunting woes. He told me that I shouldn't give up, and that I should forget about new york, and go out the city to look for a job a place that is a little more military friendly, and a place that depends more on cars. First Sergerant listed a few places I should try but most of them were in New Jersey and PA! I don't mind some times you do what you have to do.

Since finding a job is going to take some time, I did something that I thought I'd never had to do again, I went to the Public Asstiance office. I saved up enough money for rent and stuff to last for another month and I not going to wait at the last mintue to apply. And I hate  PA! The long waits and all the red tape. But this is just I hope what will be a short set back. They case worker told me my situation counts for expdited food stamps. So I should get my food stamps in about a few days.

Sigh....now about me not feel well, for the last two days I've been feeling out of it. I'm fatigued, I have the shakes, I feel hot, I have heart palpations if I stand up too fast, and I'm having headaches. I think it's because of all the running around I've been doing and maybe I'm dehydrated. I don't want to go to the doctor unless I'm sure it's nothing serious. So I'm going to chill out for the rest of the week and see what happens. I'm  goingto look for the thermometer to take me temperature to make sure I'm not running a fever. I don't remember the last time I ever had a fever and some of my symptoms mimic one.  Well I'm going to sign off now. I'll post again when I'm feeling better.

Keep your head up Tigoness and don't feel bad about not postsing....Is the pic you drew an example of a Tigoness? Looks vicious, One more comment about th ejob search: try a parts store similar to a Pep Boys which sells parts over the counter and has an instalaton center...you can get in as a sales associate and then transition to the garage or the mechanic's center. You will definately be hired as an associate with your knowledge, you just need to be pleasant in order to deal with the customers. While in this position you will need to visit the mechanics and let the manager know what you want to do (not the store manager but the machanic manager) and over a period of time which will include talking and convincing you will be given the chance to perform. Get in the door then get what you want...I just put out a search for warhammer if you are wondering.
Late.....Martin
