Tigoness out on the prowl
This is going to be a short post because I'm going back out. I went to costco for shopping today on 3rd ave in brooklyn, for some food shopping. I also went to pathmark on alantic ave in down town broo klyn to buy non-perishable items for that homeless couple and their dog on 5th ave btw 36-37 streets. I'll give them the stuff monday because I going near that part of manhattan on that day anyway. I didn't forget about them and I wasn't just blowing hot air yesterday. After I post this I'm heading to forest hills queens to a friends house to get my hair colored and twisted. I got locks one time before I joined the army. But I found out too late that you couldn't have dreadlocks (I call them locks. There is nothing dreadful about them) in the army (My recruiter "forgot" to tell me that fact). So imagine to my horror when the female Drill Sergeant at reception (where you stay at for a week before you start boot camp) tells me I have to cut off my hair. It took me 3 years to grow the nice 28 inches of locked hair and now I have to hack it off. For people who do not know, once locks get to a certain length you can not comb it out. If you want a combable hair style you have to cut the locked hair off and start over. Some people who are going to get rid off their locks in the future will let the new growth grow without retwisting the hair. When the unlocked part of the hair grows to a workable length, the locked part is cut off. I had a whole year before I had to shipout of boot camp. If the recruiter would of told me about the army's "no dreadlock" policy, I would of did what I just stated in the last sentence. After I went to the barber (sadly there wasn't any female barbers that day), I had what you would call a very "G.I. Jane" hair cut. My fellow female soliders felt sorry for me. And when I started boot camp, another female DS who didn't know about my situation told me that my hair cut was "too fadish" and that I'm to never cut it that short again. Now I could of tried to explain it to her what happened but, I wasn't about to try. Female DS's can be scary at times. But I wasn't too upset about it for long. Hair do grow back. And after I found out all the rules about the way a female in the army has to keep her hair, in a way I was glad I had it short. When it comes to some things I like to keep it simple. Like hair. I like styles that look nice and are not too complex. I shouldn't have to spend more than 10 mintues on my hair. Now with my hair short I didn't have to worry about things like "Is my hair touching my collar?" Or "Will these hair pins be considered fadish?".Now the only things I had to do was not cut my hair too short and not to let my hair "wolfout". So in the morning, while other females was fighting to keep their hair within military standards, the only thing I had to do was run a comb through it and go. I had enough things to worry about like "will Drill Sergeant R. scream at me this morning during P.T. for not running fast enough?" ect. So anyway, I'm going to get my hair twisted. I usually keep my hair 1/2 long but during my last year in the army, I let it grow knowing what I was planning to do when I left. Now my hair at the longest point is about 61/2 inches so my firend who is doing my hair can palm roll it which is one of the easier ways to twist hair. I could twist my hair myself but I want to dye it first and when it comes to that I don't know what the heck I am doing. I want my hair to be a brownish red(a little more brown than red)with a slight of golden look. Now after I get it twisted the hardest part will be not washing it for a whole month, and maintaince for the first few months. I have that type of hair that is not all one texture, so parts of my hair lock up faster than others. The sides and the back of my head is coarse and wiry, the hair on the crown of my head is curly/wavy and springy, and the hair at my hair line is curly and fine. The first time I locked my hair the back and the sides locked up pretty quickly but the middle and the very front took forever. And when my hair finally decided to work with me I had to hack it off. So anyway let me leave now. I tell ya how my hair turns out when I'm come back P.S. if there is anybody out there that is thinking about joining the army or has joined the army and want to know what bootcamp is like, e-mail or IM me. I'll try to fill in what the recuiters left out. "The one thing in life worth doing to proving people who don't beleive in you wrong" Tigoness
