Pre Season Games / Tryouts
Game 1 vs Howell Diamonds...

Outstanding job by pitchers Rachael Soule and Sherry Kestenbaum.  They complemented each other very well with their contrasting styles.  We only hope that we can convince Sherry to become a permanent member of our team this summer as we travel in the showcase tournaments.

New comer, Heather Pohorely, will also be a welcome addition to this team, should she decide to stay.  While going 1 for 3 at the plate, she displayed an excellent arm and fielding ability.

Danielle Hagel hit her first game winning home run without having to sprint the bases.  While she downplays the distance to the fence, with her speed and an open field, the same results would have occurred.

Virginia Scardino, usually our long ball hitter, showed she can do it all by laying down a perfect bunt and beating the throw to first.  Special t hanks to her for filling in behind the plate.

First time in the box, Stephanie Chappine proved to herself she can hit left handed in a live game.  In addition, she too, laid down a perfect bunt.

Rookie, Sheena Gonnam is a welcome addition to the Tigers.  We expect big things from her.

Game 2 vs Howell Diamonds

They were good, but not good enough! Our second straight win against the Diamonds in two weeks proved that we are ready for a bigger challenge.

Pitcher, Rachael Soule,  went the distance, while throwing her first shut out of the winter season.  Congratulations to her for another outstanding job.

Leading the team with 2 hits this weekend, was the newest member of our team...Sherry Kestenbaum.  That's right.   For those of you that did not hear, Sherry has officially joined our team!  We welcome her with open arms!

Now we need to convince Heather Pohorely to be the next player to "officially" join our team.  She went 1 for three at the plate this weekend, as she hit out of the clean up spot.

While this week brought no home runs for slugger Danielle Hagel, she showed her defensive skills ( and range at short stop ), on one excellent play.

Center Fielder, Stephanie Chappine, also contributed two fine defensive plays.  On one fly ball, she picked off an opponent straying too far off  first base on a throw that had to be 125 feet.  Well done!

Behind the plate for the first time this season was Christina Walley, playing her normal exceptional game.

Thanks, once again, to Virginia Scardino for playing up with us!  We love having you around!  You are a welcome attribute to any team.

Now, for the negatives of the game!  There were a couple worth mentioning!

Number 1:  Outfielders always sprint to a fly  ball.  Make every play look easy!  That will catch the eye of college coaches.
Number 2:  Keep your head in the game.  Slide when you are supposed to slide.

Game 3 vs Philadelphia Spirit

No excuses.  No Blame.  We played poorly.  They deserve the credit for winning.

One highlight was Kathleen Dreitlein, who was trying out for our team.  Kathleen is a first baseman, catcher and short stop.   She impressed everyone with her arm strength and quick bat.  Playing short stop in the first few inning and then jumping behind to plate (when Lauren Krason could no longer stand the pain from an injury to the tailbone in the first inning), Kathleen  would be a welcome addition if we can convince her to stay.

Did I mention Lauren Krason??? Yes, she's back!  Over the Frost bitten fingers.  Able to get off from work.  It was nice to have her back on the field ... only to take an errant throw to the keester.  Lauren, get well quickly.  We want you in our line up.

For those of you wondering where Danielle Hagel was this past weekend....  She was home studying for her mid term exams.  It appears our Danielle won't settle for anything but #1.  You see, she is currently #2 in her class.  GOOD LUCK, DANNIE!

Game 4 vs Howell Heat

This is the way that a Tiger Team is to play.  Very nice effort from all participating.  Stephanie Chappine went 2 for 4 at the plate (4 for 6 on the day)  including a 3 run home run, with a 1 ball, 2 strike count.    Bouncing off of the right field fence, the ball hit by Sherry Kestenbaum was another impressive drive.  She was 2 for 2 ( 2 for 4 on the day).    Other contributions were from Kathleen Dreitlein who hit 2 for 4 ( 3 for 6 on the day),  Lauren Krason hit 1 for 3 ( 1 for 4 on the day) , scoring 2 times.  And Sheena Gonnam (1 for 4, 1 for 5 on the day) got the final hit of the game with 2 RBIs to make the final 10 - 0.

Game 5 vs Health Quest

This was our finest game all season.  We played a very nice team in "Health Quest".  Yes. they were good, but not good enough!  Falling behind by 5 runs in the first inning, because a young pitcher was nervous, you each contributed toward the win.  Relaxed concentration was the key to our success.  No one panicked, no one got angry.  You simply did what needed to be done.

Singles by Danielle Hagel and Stephanie Chappine lead to two runs off a wild pitch and an RBI fielder's choice off of the bat of Kathleen Dreitlein.  Heather Pohorely walked in the second and advanced to third on two errant pitches.  Danielle Hagel got the RBI on a fielder's choice.

The third inning brought three runs.  A lead off double for Kathleen Dreitlein and an RBI single by Christina Walley lead to the first run.  Heather Pohorely then walked.  Each girl advanced on a stolen base.  A wild pitch lead to Walley's run, followed by an RBI fielder's choice by Sherry Kestenbaum.

Fifth and final inning, Danielle Hagel got on base by a walk.  She advanced to second on a stolen base.  A Wild pitch put her on third and the game winning play turned out to be a strike out, leading to a throw to first base, which lead to Hagel scoring.

Ladies, learn from this play!  If the ball is in the dirt on the third strike, RUN!  If you are not certain if it was in the dirt, and you hear my voice, RUN!

Defensively, I want to mention two girls.  Kathleen Dreitlein made three exceptional plays at first base digging the ball out of the dirt.  The other was Christina Walley.  Very nice job.  You looked really good behind the plate.  Very little, if anything, got behind you.  All of those ball blocking drills are paying off!

Game 6 vs Hunterdon Central HS

To those that did not show up, know that you were missed.  It is very difficult to play with only 5 of our normal players showing up, especially when we have to put those that do show up in positions that they are not used to playing.  To Sherry, I give you my personal guarantee... "We will have an excellent defense behind you and Rachael  by tournament time.

On behalf of the team, I would like to wish Sherry a safe and wonderful time, as she leaves this week for Spain.  We'll see you in 3 weeks.

The thought for the week ... "As you travel through life's journey, striving for your goal; keep your eye upon the donut and not upon the hole".

Game 7 vs Philly Spirit

For those of you that hate losing, relax.  While I hate losing too, understand that I am not playing these games to win.  I am playing these games to learn  about the talent of the final few girls trying out for our team.  Trust me.  I know talent. We have talent!  We will win!

Today brought great news!  Kathleen Dreitlein is officially a Tiger.  She has decided to stay with our team, and I am certain that she will help to make this a successful season.  Welcome aboard, Kathleen!

Today also brought us an additional key element that I have been searching out.  A left handed pitcher, Stephanie ( Roberta ) Clemente threw two innings for us today and did an excellent job.  I have told her that if she wants to join us, she is welcome on our team.  When we spoke after the game, she said something that I want to pass along to Christina Walley.  She said "I've never had anyone that good catch for me before".    Hopefully, that will sway her decision and convince her to become a Tiger.  Hey Christina,  I guess all of those catching drills are starting to pay off.

By the way, join me in sending out  best wishes to Sheena Gonnam.  She was ill this weekend.  Get well soon, Sheena!

The thought for the week ... "That which you share multiplies.  That which you withhold diminishes".

Game 8 vs North Hunterdon

In case you hadn't noticed, this was an excellent team!  Their pitcher, Lara Kestenbaum, was an intelligent, pitcher.  She gave us very few good pitches to hit.  We however, did hit the ball hard.  It just happened that we hit the ball at the defensive players.  Stephanie Chappine's rbi single in the final inning was one of the nice hits of the day that just happened to be hit in a location there was fielder.

Did you happen to catch that athletic play of  picking up  and throwing the ball (  while bent at the waste )  to third base made by Kathleen Dreitlein?   Big time play Kathleen!

Did you catch the headline at the top of this page?  Stephanie Clemente is in.  Our pitching staff is now complete!  Stephanie will join Sherry Kestenbaum and Rachael Soule in our  rotation.  I hope that you are as excited as I am.

Speaking of the other pitchers, let's wish Rachael Soule "Break a Leg" as she performs in her high school play, Grease, this Sunday.

Sherry Kestenbaum will be back Sunday.  She arrives home from Spain on Friday.  Hopefully, the jet lag won't hit her too hard.  I know she's thinking about us.  In fact, she sent me an email from Spain.  As soon as my email was set out regarding uniform numbers, she replied within minutes.

The   thought for the week ... "Hit 'em where they aint".    Anyone know the auther?
