Design plays a key role in our everyday lives, from professional presentations to personal social media posts. We are inundated with information in every aspect of our lives and the role of design to entice us to consume the information as well as assist in the retention of the information. Presentation is everything. As a new entrant into the design field, I look forward to adding my sparkle to a wide array of projects.
I dropped out of college when I was 21 and as had been predicted by everyone, I regretted my decision pretty quickly. I left because, frankly, I was tired of school and, after obtaining my Associate of Arts, I really didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I couldn't even choose an appropriate major for my Undergraduate degree. I bounced around from job to job, everything from a substitute teacher to a Deputy Jailer, until I married my husband and became a stay at home wife and mom. I kept the desire to complete my education in my heart and made a deal with myself that I would achieve my goal as soon as my kids started school. Life had other plans and I had to delay the completion of my degree for various reasons until the fall of 2020. Due to Covid, my children attended a virtual academy that allowed a flexibility in our schedule that made it possible for me to return to the classroom.
I had purchased a vinyl cutter in 2016 and really enjoyed the design process involved with making gifts for friends and family. The items I made were well received and I was encouraged to offer my creations for sale. I have made many different items that have shipped all over the country. This experience gave me the confidence to choose an appropriate major- Graphic Design- and all the pieces were in place.
I began my current degree path in August of 2020 and have a projected graduation date of December 2021. I have completed all of my classwork, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, while facilitating the homeschooling of my children as well as running a household. Over the past year I have honed my time management skills. I have consistently met deadlines while meeting and exceeding expectations.
My real world design experience may be short but I possess a creative mind along with determination and a strong work ethic. I am excited to begin my journey in this field, wherever the road may lead.
