Joseph Franklin Collier worked for merchants in Melbourne, Izard County, Arkansas as a freight driver hauling goods from the river boats on the White River to Melbourne. The Steamboat Ozark was the type of boats used in his time and it was running the White River at the same time Joseph was hauling freight . It is entirely conceivable that it was a boat he worked from or at least was familiar with.

This steamboat was one of the largest and nicest of those that traveled the Little Red River during the wetter months during the late 1800s and early 1900s, when the river level was high. Named "Ozark," it is shown here in 1890 unloading supplies at Calico Rock on the White River, which it traveled year-round. Note the nicely dressed businessmen checking their wares.
