At the turn of 20 th Century the Orthodox Syrian Christian population of Thrissur and surrounding areas. By the beginning of  2 nd decade a church complex in the name of St.Ignatious Nurono with all minimum facilities came up in a 3 acre land West Fort locality in Thrissur town, fulfilling the spiritual need to have a common place of worship. At the the initiative of Mr.M.A.Chacko (Chacko Suprend) the then Police uperendendant Of Cochin State, the construction was completed with liberal co-operation and donations from parishioners and other benefactors.After a lapse of 4 decades the community grew in size in Chembukkavu area and for a church nearby was felt. The foundation for a Chapel was laid in 1954 and the first Holy Mass was celebrated on 6 th March 1955 by H.G.Pathros Mar Osthatheos,known as the "Bishop of the poor" . The contributions and initiative Judge K.A.Poulose (Poulose Judge) will ever be remembered; the land was received as donation and construction of the chapel was completed in record time with unreserved help ,co-operation and contribution of the members.The Chapel was consecrated on 22nd December 1979 by H.G.Yuhanon Mar Severeos and H.G.Yakoob Mar Policarpose.The parish was growing further and more and more members came in to Thrissur on account of their job or business.Need for a Chapel  on the southern side of Thrissur was felt. Then Mr.K.G. Mathew (Karavattu Veettil) had donated 12.5 cents of land Nehru Nagar,Kuriachira for this purpose.Construction of the Chapel was decided .On November 7th 1976,foundation stone for the new Chapel  in the name of St.Gregorios  of Parumala was laid by  H.G.Yuhanon Mar Severios the Metropolitan of Cochin Dioces.From 1st of April 1994St.Thomas Chapel at Chembukkavu and St.Gregorios Chapel at Nehru Nagar were raised to the status of independent Parishes condidering the growth and expansion of the community
