FIRST PREMIUM PIANOS

WILLIAM KNABE.HENRY GAEHLE.EDWARD BETTS,

KNABE, GAEHLE & CO.

MANUFACTURERS OF

GRAND AND SQUARE PIANO FORTES,

Nos, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 11 Eutaw Street,

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.

At our Establishment may be constantly found a large assortment of
Six, Six 1/4, Six 3/4, and Seven Octave Pianos in plain and highly finished
cases of Rosewood, Mahogany, &c., the interior work perfected by a
judicious use of all the latest American and European improvements.
Our instruments will be found particularly adapted to stand the sudden
changes of our climate, a point to which we have devoted much atten-
tion. As another pledge that our instruments are well and faithfully
made, we warrant their durability for five years under good care, and
will replace with others, all which may not give satisfaction, if applica-
tion be made within the first six months.

The Maryland Institute for the Promotion of Mechanic Arts awarded us the
First Premiums three years in succession, 1848, 1849 and 1850; at their Annual
Exhibition for 1849 we were fortunate enough to receive two First Premiums,
one for our Grand the other for our Square Pianos. To these testimonials we
confidently refer with pride and pleasure, especially as our instruments were
placed in competition with those of the most celebrated manufacturers in the
country. Our Establishment is now the most extensive South, (numbering over
100 workmen,) in which for thirteen years we have labored incessantly, sparing
no pains and expense, to deserve the patronage so liberally bestowed on us. We
have found an ample recompense in the testimonials to which we referred, as well
as in the encomiums of the most celebrated artists visiting our shores, and the
hearty approval and custom of our own Professors and Amateurs.

Orders from the Country attended to with all possible punctuality, and persons
residing at a distance who may favor us with their orders, will find that it is not
less our practice than our interest to send them such Instruments as bear the
strictest scrutiny. The manufacturers will keep all Pianos sold by them in the
City or within one hundred miles of the City, in tune for one year, without charge;
they therefore recommend their Pianos with full confidence, assuring the public
that they are determined not to be undersold by any dealer or manufacturer, and
ask it as a favor of all wishing a good Instrument, to call and examine their stock
before purchasing elsewhere.

  N. B. Constantly on hand an assortment of CARHART'S PATENT MELODEONS, at
prices ranging from $50 to $200, for which we are the sole Agents for this city.

Thankful for the extensive patronage received by the late firm for the last fifteen

the entire large stock of unfinished Pianos, Lumber and other prepared materials be-
longing to the late firm. He will, therefore, continue the business at the Old Stand,

William Knabe & Co., Manufacturers of Grand, Square and Upright Pianos ; Factory, Corner of Eutaw and West Streets ; Warerooms, 204 and 206 West Baltimore Street, Baltimore, Md., and at 112 Fifth Avenue, New York. - The fame of hte firm of WIlliam Knabe & Co. is so universally known throughout the entire world, where the divine gift and art of music has found its way over every section of the civilized nations of the earth, that any praise of its well-earned laurels as piano manufacturers of the first magnitude in art and science would be superfluous in the limits of this review. Every class and style of make and finish of pianos and organs is made to suit the taste and price of all patrons, from the grand 7 1/4 octave rosewood concert piano to the plain, solid or ornamented square piano. Testimonials from the most eminent and renowned artists in music have been freely granted to Messrs. Knabe, among those being Gottschalk, M. Strakosch, Marmontel, Pauline Lubbu, Benedict Richards, Clara Louisa Kellogg, &c., &c. The press of the various cities of the United States have fully lent its columns to the magnitude of this renowned manufacturing pinao and organ house, in justice to whom we would add the award of the great Centennial medal won by William Knabe & Co. at the International Exhibition of 1876 at Philadelphia.

ANTHONY KUHN,

No. 75 Forth Greene Street, and No, 2 F. Liberty St.

ONE DOOR FROM BALTIMORE STREET, FORMERLY CALLED MARKET STREET,

Offers at Wholesale and Retail, to Principals of Academies and Seminaries, and Professors, and to Mer-
chants, and the public generally, SUPERIOR PIANOS, of every style and finish, at the shortest notice.
Particular attention is paid to Pianos sent to private families. These Pianos are sent to all parts of the
United States for examination and competition. All of which are warranted against any breakage cal-
culated to materially injure the Instruments.
These Pianos are expressly manufactured for the Southern Market, with strong,
entire Metallic or Iron Frames inside, which prevent warping or contraction of
the cases , and keep the Instrument in tune longer than any other improvement
yet known, the change of climate or weather having no effect upon them.
The beauty, sweetness, power and durability of these Pianos, is the cause of the
steady and increasing demand for them. They have been extensively sold in
Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North and [South Carolina, in successful com-
petition with those manufactured in New York or elsewhere. Low priced Pianos
are always manufactured of inferior materials and by common workmen : but high
priced ones just the reverse of all this. Nothing can convey a more incorrect
idea of its real value than the outward appearance of a Piano : for two Pianos
may be set before a gentleman or a lady, and both look so nearly alike that none
but adequate judges could make a proper choice, yet one of those Pianos would
be richly worth $300, whilst the other could be sold for $200. This arises from
the quality of material and the workmen employed. Pianos of small or light sets
of strings do not require the same quantity or quality of material and workman-
ship as those containing more powerful sets of strings; hence the difference in
quality and price.

Persons wishing Pianos from this establishment have no necessity to visit the
city or send an agent, but let them write to the proprietor, describing the kind of
Instrument they want, and the price, and one will be sent, which, if it does not
come up to their expectations for the price, they need not take it.

The Proprietor and his Agents make it their practice, at least once a year,
whenever they happen in the neighborhood where any of their Instruments are, to
tune them, if they require it, without charge.
PIANOS, with all the modern improvements, in Rosewood and Ma-
hogany cases, with Metallic Plates, like those from N. York, from $200 to $250
METALLIC FRAMES, from................$250 to $300, according to quality.
Six and a Half Octave, from.....................................$275 to $325
Seven Octave, from............................................ 300 to 500
The Manufacturer runs all risk of Transportation, and warrants their safe
arrival.

All letters and orders promptly attended to.
