So I came up with a new creation, Charger Brew. It's a simple recipe, really it was a way to try step mashing. I took some pictures of the process. I learned just moments befor starting that the Protien Rest I was originally go to do at 120F is not really required and can posibly cause problems. So I P-rested at 131F, B-rest at 142F, A-rest at 150F and Mash out at 168F.
The cracked grain from the LHBS, 9lbs German Pilsner. to the right is a picture of the First Step, the Protien Rest, 131F. I let the temp settle and gave it 15 minutes.
I per-heated the Mash Tun with about 2qts boiling water, dumped it out just prior to adding strike water and grain. To the left is a picture of the second temp step, this one was Beta rest, 142F. I hit temps pretty good today, I'm Happy. Below that is the last Temp step to 150F. This one I actually missed, I was shooting for 155F but I got 150F. I may have gotten distracted when getting the water measured out, may be a quart low.
Below is the kettle with 1oz. Kent Golding (UK) 4.8%AA, FWH. I use a 7.5 gallon Turkey Fryer, so far it has worked out well.
Here is the Pre-Boil Sample, looks good. S.G. 1.049 Volume 6.5 gallons
The start of the boil, you can see the FWH churning in the boil
