This is Randy Meyer's 1986 Monte Carlo LS. The car only has about 50k miles on it but he decided he wanted to make some changes to it.

These changes involved the removal of all the smog equipment on the LG4 305. Unfournately my camera was on the fritz and I wasn't sure if it was working correctly so I didn't take as many pictures as I had planned on.

This is when I first arrived. The carb was removed and that was about it :).

Here is when we were finished for the day. The distributor was stuck pretty good, something I've never came across before but it came out. This picture is after the removal of the carb, distributor, intake, smog pump and a few vacuum lines and other non-essential peices. It is still a little cluttered but Randy wants to keep the A/C so we couldn't rip everything out.

Some nice parts here, all the essentials when losing the computer and smog equipment.

Here is the spring installation already in progress as I arrived on Thursday, May 31st. Along with the motor upgrades there were also many suspension upgrades. I mainly only helped out with the motor.

Here are the Iroc rear springs, Moog part# CC-635. You can see my feet too.

Now this is a fine example of a shadetree mechanic. I was amazed that all of this work was done with a regular 3/8" Craftsman socket set and the factory jack!? And I thought I didn't have many tools, boy was I wrong. This should be inspriring to anyone who is intimidated by doing work themselves.

Here they are, side by side. Hopefully both will be at Maplegrove this weekend getting some current times slips.

The car was first fired up on Thursday night and ran quite well. It was the first time I was able to stab the distributor in the correct position on the first try.

Start up, see that smoke? Car had not been started in two weeks. When I came back Friday the distibutor had thrown itself out of the motor due to the clamp not being on quite right, oops. So it took me two times to get it back in the right position. I did some quick tuning due to a heavy rain and we were off for a test drive. Car ran great and it rides better than mine with the Iroc springs, Edelbrock IAS shocks and bigger sway bars.
