Darkness
All I ask for is darkness
So I can see the stars that shine so brightly
Against the elegant black night sky
So I will be astounded by the beauty
That these glorious twinkling lights bring
So I will be lost for words
For as long as my eyes stay open
And my heart beats such a beat
All I ask for is silence
So I can hear the whistling wind blowing
Through the branches of a wise old tree
So I can think about the many things
That this silence allows my mind to discover
So it will become clear to me
As to why the stars draw me so
To stare at them so longingly
All I ask for is peace
So I can be without interruption
From quarrels that surround us all
So I will feel safe by myself
Without the worry of an unexpected shock
So I can be myself and also
That I can express such feeling
As to not annoy a fellow other
All I ask for is darkness
And I believe the rest will follow
For in darkness comes silence
And in silence comes peace
As no one can see or hear
That we are any different
As we are all the same
Yes, we are all the same
Under the same elegant black night sky.
