Text Box: The been offered and the taking of knucklebones at the start of the Norse adventure is their way of creating a bond and create a contract between the participants and their leader. There are conditions and expectations both for leaders and for participants in these adventures for gain. When the Norse took a long ship out for a summer voyage it may have been for raiding or for trading and like them, we join with companions in an effort to reward ourselves. We get to eat and design our celebration feast but the real reward comes in our spiritual advancement as we try strive to understand who and what we are. The leaders responsibility on this expedition is defined by a set of principles that both the provincial and federal organization of professional counselors have established. What they basically say is that counselors have to act and behave in ways that are beneficial and helpful to the client and be knowledgeable and responsible around legal and ethical issues. As a leader I will report to the proper authorities any abuse or suspected abuse of a minor or somebody not mentally competent Take appropriate actions if I hear or suspect that someone has intentions of physically harming themselves or others Keep confidentiality around everything that happens on our journey except when ordered to do by law and even then I could argue with the judge as to whether or not disclosure is pertinent to this particular case. Treat my fellow participants as equals without prejudice around issues of sexuality, religion, culture or any other of the negative ways we view each other. Strive to be open without having to defend myself or attack others Be willing to take responsibility as a leader to encourage and guide our journey As a companion you will Keep confidentiality around everything that happens on our journey Treat our fellow participants as equals without prejudice around issues of sexuality, religion, culture or any other of the negative ways we view each other. Strive to be open without having to defend yourself or attack others Be willing to take responsibility as a participant to encourage and help others complete our journey As warriors, the taking of knucklebones signs us to the ship and gives us the right to have an equal share in the responsibility and reward at the end of the voyage. So as your leader I remind you, one more time, what happens on the voyage stays on the ship and we are all in this together as we explore our personal spirituality using a mythology that is out of step with our ordinary place and time.
