"The Battlefield" - Summary by Melly
Written By: David E. Kelley

Lindsay is working at home, writing something on her notebook. We Can't see her desk it's all covered with piles of papers, folders, books. Then the camera moves on the floor, that too is all pretty much covered with papers and books. Helen walks in from her room. She's wearing a black dress, ready for another blind date. She asks Lindsay to clean the mess a little. Lindsay says it's only for a couple of days. Helen asks her if it's the Pearson appeal, and Lindsay says yes. Helen goes on to make a comment, but Lindsay asks her not to.

Helen then tells her that it's her first date with this guy. They talk about it when the bell rings. Helen goes to open it. There is a very good looking guy on the other side. He looks up and down her body and says: Helen? She smiles and says: Absolutely. He then asks her if she is ready, and she again says: Absolutely. She then looks towards Lindsay, her eyes saying: Oh MY God, you should see him. Lindsay laughs out loud as they leave.

Opening credits.

Eugene and Ellenor are talking to George Vogelman in one of the jails. Ellenor tells him that basically he is the only suspect, the police is not even looking for anybody else, they consider the case solved. He asks if there are any theories how the head ended up in his bag. "You are sick", Eugene replies. Ellenor then tells George that the firm has spent $20, 000 on private investigators, they can't any more. They have motion to suppress the video tapes tomorrow. Eugene asks him if he'd be open to a plea, not that they are being offered, such as manslaughter, insanity. George says no, I wouldn't be open to that.

Back in the office Lindsay is upset that Lucy didn't get her the transcripts she wanted. A hearing is scheduled for that afternoon and she needs all those files. Bobby walks in and asks them what's wrong and Lucy and Lindsay explain all the while cat fighting. As Lindsay leaves for another room Bobby is met by Rebecca who asks him if he knows what Jimmy's case is about. He says something about his cousin. Jimmy approaches them and explains that his cousin fired a woman because she is Iranian. Rebecca is not happy about this, but Jimmy says, he's my cousin, it's a 2 day jury trial.

In court Eugene and a DA are arguing before the judge if the tapes found in George's apartment should be admissible. After hearing the arguments the judge rules that the tapes are inadmissible. The DA is obviously upset. Ellenor looks surprised.

Lindsay is visiting Pearson. They talk about the appeal. She tells him that they'll argue that judge Hiller was wrong not to let them argue self defense. Pearson has reservations about this, but thanks her for fighting so hard with so little to fight with.

In the court, the Iranian Girl, Sally Bader is on the stand. She talks about her work, how she was promoted twice within the last year and how everything was working out really good for her. Her attorney asks her what happened then. She tells her how last March she was leaving on vocation a co worker was passing by and asked her where she was going. She replied to him home, to Iran. Then afterwards she felt everybody was treating her differently. A month later her employee, Jimmy's cousin, Peter Martini told her that things weren't working out and hence had to let her go.

Then she is questioned by Jimmy. Rebecca walks in as Jimmy begins. Among everything else, Jimmy asks her about terrorism, but her attorney objects. The judge sustains the objection. Jimmy then holds out a little Iranian flag and asks her if she honors the flag. Miss Bader says yes. Everybody in the room looks a little uncomfortable. Jimmy says thank you and goes back to his sit. As he walks over to his desk he is met by Rebecca's accusing eyes.

Eugene and Ellenor are meeting Susan Robin's ex boyfriend Jay Hickman in a restaurant. They are trying to find out what could've made Susan do what she did that night. She was not the kind of person who would have one night stands. He tells them that he had been a little unfaithful to her. She caught him with someone else that afternoon.
