a student's lament (for the kiddies)

too much time has passed me by
within your sacred halls of learning.
i've seen too many hours fly
or drag by if the lesson's boring.

more of my life than i ever dare
to count or quantify or number
was wasted in those hallowed halls
while i tried not to snore in my slumber.

all the time that i've spent doing
homework that i've longed to skip
and all the places i loathed going
to which i've been dragged on field trips

have made me wish for the undoing
of all that work and all that travel.
two more years of public schooling
will surely make my mind unravel.
