Ingredients:
- Diced Tomatoes. How chunky or small of course depends on your preference.
- Diced Onion
- Salt to preferred taste
- Chopped Cilantro
- Lemon Juice
- Jalapeo Peppers
- Good sharp knife, as always.
- Bowl, of course.
What to do:
Mix equal amounts of Tomatoes, Onion and Cilantro
Add/Mix Salt to your liking
Add/Mix in Lemon juice to your liking
Add/Mix in Jalapeos to your liking
Mix thoroughly. Personally I like my salsa hot and chunky and not watery. So for me I'd probably use lot's of tomato and lots of peppers and probably less lemon juice. It's all up to you.
Now, some alternatives: Just some of the things that might be good as substitutes OR in addition to, the ingredients above.
- Red onion
- Garlic or Onion salt instead of regular salt
- Lime juice instead of Lemon juice
- Habaero instead of Jalapeo peppers. (Little orange bastards. Warning: seriously hot!)
- Fresh Thai Chiles instead of other peppers. These are tiny so you'll need a bunch but they are extremely hot. However, they don't seem to burn for as long as the more traditional Mexican style peppers.
As I said above, This is a very basic salsa recipe that allows you a lot of freedom to experiment and mix and match all your favorite ingredients.
Enjoy
Martha's Guacamole
Here's another awesome Guacmole recipe that differs slightly from Leticia's. This one is quicker and a bit more simple. Allows for a great deal of experimentation.
Ingredients:
- 3 to 5 Haas Avocados. Depends on how much you are making. Save 1 Avocado pit.
- Chopped Onion (size and chunkiness to your liking)
- Salt to preferred taste
- Chopped Cilantro (amount to your liking)
- Chopped Tomatoes (size and chunkiness to your liking)
- Large dollip of sour cream
- 1 or 2 lemons; for the juice. Too much will make it soupy.
- Fork; Potato masher is even better.
- Good sharp knife, as always.
- Bowl, of course.
What to do:
Mash Avocados to desired consistency
Add/Mix in Onion
Add/Mix in Cilantro
Add/Mix in Salt
Add/Mix in Lemon Juice
Lastly, add/mix in chopped Tomatoes
Mix thoroughly until it looks like presentable Guacamole.
Ok,REMEMBER take the Avocado Pit (you did save one, right?) and stick it in the middle of the mix. This will help to keep the avocado from oxidizing and turning black.
A few Alternatives:
- Red Onion instead of regular
- Garlic or Onion salt instead of regular salt
- Lime juice instead of Lemon juice
- Like it spicy? Try adding some chopped Chile peppers to the mix. Any kind you prefer. Personally, as in the salsa recipe, I like Thai Chiles or Habaero peppers. Jalapeos are great too, of course.
- Tabasco. This can be good, especially if you want it spicy and you don't have any peppers. Remember there are a few different kinds of Tabasco; for example try using Garlic Tabasco along with Garlic salt instead of regular salt.
- Minced Garlic. Garlic is great but I don't advise using too much in a Guacamole recipe as it could dominate the taste. Remember, Avocados are rather bland, so any strong ingredient even in a small amount will go a long way to flavoring your Guacamole.
- With adding any Peppers or Garlic I recommend adding them right after the onion and cilantro. Adding any sauce, like Tabasco, I recommmend adding right after the Lemon/Lime juice.
Enjoy!
