He Stopped Loving Her
From Vietnam he came back home, To his wife that had been left alone. He looked so healthy in those days, With no idea the price he'd pay. Agent Orange had not come to light, When him and his wife had begun to fight. They'd been so happy for many years, Until his affair that caused them tears. She couldn't forgive him of his sin, So then their marriage came to an end. With four small children left behind, For Tom there was no peace of mind. Several marriages he then went through, He couldn't stop loving his first love true. He had said to me time and time again, "I wish that I had never sinned" Agent Orange was taking a toll, Which caused other diseases to be foretold. But he and his kids never made amends, For they too, couldn't forgive his sins. With several grandchildren he's never seen, A very tortured life was all he recieved. His life then slowly went downhill, He just kept drinking so he couldn't feel. All those years were just wasted away, With Agent Orange and sins to be paid. As he lay dying in his hospital room, Waiting for his children to get there soon. "Their not coming, Tom", my brother said, He then slowly slipped away there in his bed. Then as the Lord took my brother away, As Conley sang "He stopped loving her today"
