When they are babies and start to cry,
You cuddle them up and the tears will dry.
Then one day they've started to talk,
The next thing you know they've started to walk.
Then they come crying to say, "I fell",
And then you kiss it and make it well.
Then they grow up and move away.
Then you sit by the phone and wait.
Then they're crying on the telephone,
And you want so bad to bring them home.
To hold them in your arms, so tight.
To keep them safe for another night.
A problem at work has made them sad.
Or maybe just a bad day they've had.
Or maybe a marriage has fallen apart.
And they always call you with a broken heart.
So you pray for them night after night,
To ask the Lord to make to make it right.
For a broken heart Mom can't mend.
So you ask the Lord for His angels to send,
To wrap them in His abiding love,
and send His blessings from up above.
If I could have but one wish today,
It would be for thier troubles to all go away.
