Rise and Shine

I've not seen you for awhile,
I really miss your precious smile.
I miss your hugs so very much,
I would love your face to touch.

To hear I love you in my ear,
To keep away these lonely tears.
Thinking back into your youth,
When you lost your first tooth.

As I remember your first words,
Most precious sounds I ever heard.
As you first learned how to talk,
Your first steps when you walked.

So many stumbles as you tried,
I kissed the tears when you cried.
And refereed all your fights,
The goodnight kisses at night.

"Say your prayers," I always said,
As I sent you off to bed.
Just before I slept at night,
I asked the Lord to hold you tight.

In early morn these words you heard,
Rise and shine, my little blue birds!
