From Years Ago

In the memory of our doctor from years ago,
When we were in need to our house you'd go.
When we were sick either day or night,
You were always there to treat us right.
For when I was only a little child,
You drove to our house for many miles.
Down old country roads you would drive,
To make sure our family stayed alive.
If any one of us would catch the flu,
We'd all get a shot, for sure, we knew.
You waded mud to get to our home,
The night my sister, Bonnie was born.
You wouldn't let mom give you any pay,
"I'll get it another time," you'd always say.
And when I carried my first born chld,
You drove through those muddy roads for miles.

You came to our house on Sunday afternoons,
When you knew that I would deliver soon.
You came to make sure that I was doing fine,
Then Sunday dinner with us you'd dine.
Then came the night that she was born,
You were there in the wee early morn.
You kept telling me jokes to ease the pain,
And telling me I could squeeze your hand again.
My husband asked you what was your charge,
You told him to build a fence 'round your yard.
You were a blessing that God had sent,
To our community to heal and mend.
All the communities around Jerico Springs,
Your memory and praises forever we sing.
Dr G. B. Bannister we miss you so,
You were the best from years ago.
