The Good Old Days
Mom said to me when I was but about four feet high, "See that pretty red bird up there in the sky? Watch and see if it lands in the trees. I'll tell you a secret just between you and me." So I sat as close as I possibly could, Because our secrets were always so good. She said, "Shut your eyes now so you can't see And make a wish of what you want to be." She said, "now you can open up your eyes, But watch to see which way it will fly. If the red bird goes up into the blue Then your wish will surely come true. If the red bird heads down toward the ground Then your wish will never be found."
I love to remember those good old days, For there was another game that she played. As we were watching the birds one time, This is the one that sticks in my mind. She said, "run and put salt on that birds tail, It will be real easy for you to curtail". So then I got some salt in my hand, And patiently waited for it to land. I ran over that yard for so long. And mom just sat back, singing her songs. And she had so much fun watching me try To catch that bird before it would fly.
God gives us our memories in this special way. So we'll always remember The Good Old Days.
