Meaning:

Oh my beloved mother I have not eaten butter

मैय्या मोरी, भोर भयो गैयन के पाछे

तूने मधुबन मोहि पठायो, चार प्रहर बन्शी बट भटक्यो

सान्झ पड़े मै घर आयो

रे मैय्या मोरी, मै कब माखन खायो

Maiyyaa moree, bhor bhayo gaiyyan ke paachhe

Tune madhuban mohi pathaayo, chaar prahar banshee bat bhatkyo

Saanjh pade mai ghar aayo

Re maiyyaa moree, mai kab maakhan khaayo

Meaning:

Oh my beloved mother, you send me to the forest with cows every morning and I come back late in the evening, so when would I get time to eat butter?

मैय्या मोरी, मै बालक बहियन को छोटो, ये छीको किस बिधि पायो

मैय्या ये ग्वाल बाल सब बैर पड़े हैं, बरबस मुख लपटायो

रे मैय्या मोरी, मै नहीं माखन खायो

Maiyyaa moree, mai baalak bahiyan ko chhoto, yeh chhiko kis bidhi paayo

Maiyyaa yeh gwaal baal sab bair pade hain, barbas mukh lapataayo

Re Maiyyaa moree, mai nahee maakhan khaayo

Meaning:

Oh my beloved mother, you hang this pot of butter so high, I have very small hands, so how could I possibly reach the pot?

Mother these gwal bal do not like me and they have forcefully applied butter on my face. I did not eat the butter.

मैय्या तू जननी, मन की अती भोली

इनके कहे पतिआयो, री मैय्या मोरि इनके कहे पतिआयो

मैय्या ये ले अपनी लकुटी कम्बलिया, तूने बहुत ही नाच नचायो

रे मैय्या मोरी मै नहीं माखन खायो

Maiyyaa tu jananee, mann kee atee bholee

Inake kahe patiaayo, ree maiyyaa moree inake kahe patiaayo

Maiyyaa yeh le apanee lakutee kambaliyaa, tune bahut hee naach nachaayo

Re maiyyaa moree mai nahee maakhan khaayo

Meaning:

My beloved mother, you are very innocent. These gopis of Gokul are trying to mislead you. I have not eaten any butter.

Mother, take this blanket and staff – you have taken me for granted. I will not take the cows to the forest from now on.

मैय्या मोरी, मैय्या जिय तेरे कुछ भेद उपजि है

तूने मोहे जानयो परायो जायो

सुरदास तब हन्सी जसोदा, ले उर कन्थ लगायो, नैन नीर भरि आयो

Maiyyaa moree, maiyyaa jiya tere kuchh bhed upaji hai

Tune mohe jaanyo paraayo jaayo

Surdaas tab hansee Jasodaa, le ura kanth lagaayo, nain neer bhari aayo

Meaning:

Mother I think you are discriminating between me and dau Bhaiyya. You consider me as an outsider.

Surdas (the poet) says Yashoda Mata immediately embraces Krishn, crying profusely.

कन्हैया कन्हैया तै नहीं माखन खायो

कन्हैया मोरे तै नहीं माखन खायो

Kanhaiyaa kanhaiyaa tai nahee maakhan khaayo

Kanhaiyaa more tai nahee maakhan khaayo

Meaning:

Yashoda Mata says “Kanhaiyya, you did not eat the butter!”

अरी मैय्या मैने ही माखन खायो

सुन मैय्या मोरी, रे मैय्या मोरी मैने ही माखन खायो

Aree maiyyaa maine hee maakhan khaayo

Sun maiyyaa moree, Re maiyyaa moree maine hee maakhan khaayo

Meaning:

Krishn says “Mother I did in fact eat the butter!”
