Bunny Buddy "The Happiest Rabbit in the World"
|
| "Dear Mr. Trout, it's just a bunny picture. Why do you hate us? Love, Erica H." |
| Bunny Buddy's story is told in "The Funnies" |
Bunny Facts: - Stuffed yellow rabbit toy with floppy ears, crossed-eyes and a shock of red hair. Wears a red shirt and blue pants. Right ear has large circular label.
- The original Bunny Buddy kept under glass on Fulton Trout's coffee table depicts Bunny wearing blue and white checked overalls and having rainbow colored whiskers.
- Created by Fulton Trout and sold to Allegheny Toy and Game in 1971 for $40, 000 a year. Trout's contract gave him exclusive rights to subsequent third party Bunny sales.
|
Bunny Sales: - Allegheny Toy and Game hired F & A to oversee the $700 million sales of several of their toys to the Japanese toy firm, Golden Fun Corp.
- Fulton Trout only okayed the deal under these provisions: each Bunny Buddy will have the stamp "Fulton Trout created Bunny Buddy" and that the St. Angelica's school mural will remain intact.
|
Bunny Law:- Allegheny Toy and Game vigorously defends the Bunny Buddy trademark and publishes a "playbook" called "Bunny Buddy and the Law". Appendix 'B' lists all the schools and hospitals sued by Bunny Buddy for copyright/trademark infringement.
- St. Angelica's School for Girls second grade class spent a summer painting a Bunny Buddy mural on their playground wall. Threatened with a law suit, the school's principal, Sister Anne, gets Alvin Masterson to represent them. After a non-productive meeting, Jake Straka files the suit on behalf of Allegheny Toy and Game. They were able to keep the mural due to Fulton Trout.
