During Anne's illness, Burton did help look after her and care for her and Anne was "grateful"["Family"]
There is a implication that Anne believed Burton was flirting with her sister, Liz: A teenaged Liz and Burton were wrestling near the pool. Her mother saw them, assumed the worst and told Anne. Liz and Burton have different opinions about the flirtation: Burton's take was that Liz was "just a kid" and they were just horsing around. Liz's take was that it was more than innocent horsing around.["Family"]

The Griessler woman re-enter Burtons life in No Good Deed. Shannon burns Marys house while smoking a cigarrette. The insurance company refuses to pay because Mary is late with the monthly payment. Mary goes to Burton for help. Burton, in turn, allows Mary and Shannon to stay at his house. The insurance company problem is straightened out, however, Burton enjoys the company Mary and Shannon provide for him so he delays its resolution for another day. In the end, Mary and Shannon move to a motel while the house is being repaired and Burton is left alone. In Know Your Man, we learn Mary and Shannon still live with Burton. Mary even has a job as a receptionist at F & F. The relationship is strictly platonic, much to Burton's chagrin. Burton and Mary kiss. However, Mary harbors no romantic feelings for Burton. When Mary accepts a date from an F & F client, Burton and Mary both decide to part ways.
