Welcome to the Goodtimer's family page. Here are your host and hostess
for the Goodtimers, Jim & MaryLou Snyder.
Each Friday night at 7:00 P.M. you can find Jim at the mike calling the "show" to a start. Jim does an excellent job of emceeing and makes all guests and musicians feel right at home. You can usually find MaryLou in the kitchen or hustling around behind the scenes gathering information and making sure things are running smoothly. During an intermission time, MaryLou is at the mike making announcements such as birthdays, anniversaries, or mentioning those from our group who might be hospitalized or ill.
Just how did the Goodtimers get started? It started as a dream of the Snyder's in the basement of their home in 1986. A small group of Country Music Musicians and the love for the good ole tunes and the desire to play with other musicians with the same desire, used to jam here and there. By 1987 they out-grew their basement and moved into the Gower American Legion Hall. Then in 1989 they saw that they were continuing to grow, the desire to have their own building for their own use was becoming more of a demand.
The year 1989 was an important mile stone year for the Goodtimers. That was the year they became incorporated in the state of Missouri as a not-for-profit organization. They purchased land on the town square across from the city park and next door to what used to be the police station. While the building was being built in the summer of 1989, the Goodtimers met in the Community Center building in the town of Trimble. The building was built by all volunteers and was completely paid for in 4 years! The building and lot were paid for by different fund raises, playing for groups, garage sales, bake sales, and donations. As with all our functions, the women brought and served the food for our volunteers who worked on the building.
We are now debt free!! All funds and contributions go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the building. The Goodtimers also contribute to scholarships, flood victims, nursing homes, fire victims, mission groups and many others in need.
Pictured
here are the original Charter Members. These are the fine folks whose dream
has become a reality for the rest of us to enjoy and appreciate tremendously. Some
have since passed away, and are deeply missed as any family member would
be.
One of our members, Ms Valerie Smith who is seated on the left dressed in red in front of her proud parents, is currently living out her dream in Nashville. Valerie Smith and the Liberty Pike Band are making their mark in the music industry with her debut album, Patchwork Heart. She also has 2 more CD's out now, for a total of 3. Her latest one is titled "No Summer Storm." Be sure to pick up your copy------sounds good to me!!!!
So what exactly goes on at a Goodtimer show? People come from all across the nation to enjoy the music, fellowship and the big country meal served potluck style from our large kitchen and our regular "crew" of volunteers. You can expect about a dozen or more musicians to show up and perform. It's sort of like a big jam session, except we do it to an audience of about 200, more or less. We all join in and play with whoever is at the mike. We all of course take turns. If you want to perform, there is a sign up sheet at the door. If you want to just jam or play along, there is no need to sign up, just come up on stage and join us. Or if you just want to enjoy our fellowship, food and music, come on out. You don't need to bring a thing, unless you feel compelled to do so. Our rules or guidelines are simple. As we all wish to enjoy the Goodtimers at our sessions, we would like everyone to observe the following guidelines:
| PLEASE observe our
theme of playing Old Time Country and Bluegrass Music. (Gospel too)
NO electric instruments. Acoustic
only
All children are welcome, but please supervise them.
