Misconceptions

Chapter One

Victoria roamed around in her favourite spot in the junkyard, the very center of it, looking for something to do. She was obviously bored. No one was around today, it was odd. Whenver someone had something to do, the rest of the cats just came along with their excuse to do something. She and her best friend, Jemima had noticed this a lot. They never felt like leaving now. It was like a certain lazy spell had been cast on them.

She finally saw someone come in from behind the drainpipe. It was Bombalurina, who she was a bit intimidated by. Victoria was incredibly shy around people she didn't know particularly well. Some thought this to mean she was snobby, which she knew she wasn't.
As Bomby entered, Vikki began to stretch so she would look occupied and maybe escape conversation with the queen she feared most. Victoria blushed as Bomby came by and swished her tail at her.

"Hey there, Princess," she scoffed. "You don't have to be perfect all the time. Sit up."
Victoria sat up straight, blushing at Bomby. Bomby recoiled at the site of Vikki's innocent and apologetic looking face. She didn't mean to insult her, she just wanted to keep up her saucy reputation. "Sorry, kid. Whatever," she muttered, as she slipped off behind the old car.

Vikki just sat there again...hoping someone would come by that she wasn't scared of. She eventually decided to occupy her time by looking for someone else. It was about time she started doing that. She got up and looked around everyone's favourite spots...no one was in sight. She became lazy quickly and sat down on top of the chair that was above the car. Maybe no one would insult her up here if they did come in. She didn't mean to show off at all...she didn't know why people took it that way.

"Vikki? Is that you?" she heard a voice whisper.

"Huh?"she asked. "Who said that?"

"Me. Down here." A paw came up from under the chair and waved at Victoria. She was a bit started at the sight of it, but climbed down and slipped under the chair to see the face of Electra. She appeared to have been crying before.

"Are you okay, Lec?" Vikki asked. She was good friends with Electra, but they'd never shared something like this. Usually if one of them was upset Etcetera or Jemima or both would be there too. This time it was just them.

"No...not really," she admitted.

"What happened?"

"I made the mistake of asking Tugger if he thought I was pretty."

"What? What did he say?" Vikki was beginning to get mad. She did think Tugger was a great guy. He'd never said anything mean to any of them before.

"He said that I was okay."

"What's wrong with that? He does hang around with all the other queens you know. We're still growing up."

"I wasn't finished," Electra said firmly.

"Sorry..."

"He said I was okay, but my sister was so much more beautiful. And that you were more graceful, and my best friend was more interesting." Tears were welling up in her eyes just thinking about it again.

"What on earth possessed him to say that?!" Vikki exclaimed. "Lec, I think you're beautiful."

"Oh no you don't. You definitely know you're prettier."

"Excuse me?" It was true that Victoria was indeed gorgeous...and she did know she was. But she didn't try to flaunt it...maybe everyone just thought she did.

"You know..." Electra tried her hardest to mold herself into one of Vikki's impossible stretches, and failed miserably. She sighed angrily and sat up.

"Oh come on..." Vikki sighed and frowned at her friend. "That's not fair. It's only because I...I dunno...I'm shy, I have nothing better to do to occupy myself with when..."

"Yeah, I saw Bomby walk in on your little stretch."

"I'm just so afraid of her..."

"Why?"

"I dunno...I'm not perfect."

Electra breathed a sigh of relief. "It's good to hear someone say that about you."
