The Wonder Stuff - London Forum - 13 December 2000

Some, including Russ, say this is the best show of the seven. But then again, every night I see The Wonder Stuff is a great night. Tonight Milo promises to play us every song on Hup (only Lets Be Other People, Them Big Oak Trees and Room410 miss the cut). I still can't believe it. I. Am. Seeing. The. Wonder. Stuff. I used to think that the day would never come. Malc is all smiles, Martin is one of the best drummers I've come across, and Fiddly is blessed with an abundance of talent.

The opener, 30 Years In The Bathroom sounds as wonderfully vital as ever thanks to Miles wonderfully witty spite, and Fiddly tosses up flourishes as if he was born with only one talent. For the only time on the tour, the band bash out Hush from their neglected final album, which, despite teething trouble in the intro, is sorely missed on the rest of the tour. Also for the first time, the blazing, amazing Can't Shape Up - 1000% Full On Punk Rawk burns and blazes. The hidden classic of Room 512 is poetry in motion. And Stuart just keeps getting better and better. Only another three nights to go. But what a band. What songs. On The Ropes. Donation. Here Comes Everyone. Don't Let Me Down. A Wish Away. Classic every one. And casually tossed off in the manner that only brilliance can do so. God bless them and God bless the lot of us.
