THE GREAT ESCAPE

You can tell it’s election time in America. You can tell the race is hotting up.

Because America is Going To Mars. America is going to take to the stars. Americas condemned us all to extinction, so they’re leaving us behind on the planet. After all, the universe is full of millions of other planets. So that’s where we’re going.

It’s like Germany. America needs Leibensraum. There’s nowhere on this planet it hasn’t managed to infect with its tentacles of capitalism and influence. So it’s going where no space programme has gone before. Soon the 52nd State of the US will be the Red Planet, The God Of War, Mars.

Wether we like it or not. That’s where Fuhrer Bush is taking us all. Not content with running an enormous budget defecit (not millions, not billions, but trillions), America is a country whose government has probably got so many credit cards the whole world is owed money by it. Probably.

It won’t be that before the IMF starts loaning the US huge amounts of money at crippling interest rates in return for huge amounts of control over government policy. It won’t be long til the American economy is in such a state that it may only be able to make interest payments on the outstanding interest. And then Bono will start campaigning.

Now maybe it’s just me being odd, but isn’t it odd that the richest country in the world is also the one with biggest overdraft? A place where each individual American is carrying an average debt of around $7,000, and that’s before the government defecit of $500 Billion this year. Or, if you like to think about it, approx $2,500 per citizen. And that’s using the lamest definition of a Billion, being a thousand billion. Or, if you prefer $500,000,000,000 in defecit. And most of that is probably going on the military.

Now I’m not going to get into a discussion of the US Economy here : suffice to say that the country will probably be filing for bankruptcy soon – US Government spending is at an all time high, far outstripping the available resources, Congress have approved a virtually unlimited defence budget of $4 trillion dollars on defence.

Suffice to say you can’t escape your problems by leaving the planet. You just are spreading the problems, like a virus. Sort out your own country, your own planet, before you start on others.

But the latest American military strategy includes not only a base on Mars, but proposal for terraforming on Mars (or ‘flatpack’ self-sufficient atmospheres), control of outerspace with orbiting weapons units, and gawd knows what else.

That’s right. America is going to fill space with lasers aimed at it’s so called enemies, just like Moonraker. Or any other bad James Bond film. The next world war will be fought in space : America will ensure its plans for world domination also include off-world domination.

And I’m scared. Because it looks as if America knows that the Earth is doomed : which is why they’re planning on getting off this planet as soon as they can. By planting bases elsewhere and hoping it all kinda works out. It’ll be like the end of Dr.Strangelove. 10 women to every men, all chosen for their breeding qualities.

Everywhere man goes he destroys., Instead of grass, concrete. Instead of oxygen, monoxide. Instead of food, we consume chemicals and E Numbers. Our extinctionm will not be a bad thing. Mankind is a virus. A cancer : endlessly reproducing and eventually, overrunning the host. Mother Earth. And any virus that overpopulates, kills the host. And then no virus. Kill to cure.

What we need is a damn good war. A method of population control. Or maybe, just maybe, a government, or even just one damned politician who realises that the world isn’t just some resource to be ripped off and exploited for profit, that people are good, that for mankind to have a future we need to look beyond wars and budget defecits and concentrate on fixing this planet instead of sticking a flag on Mars that nobody can see and even less people care about. You tell the starving in Africa, the homeless in Iraq, the welfare Mothers on Welfare-To-Work Programmes across the States that going to Mars is more important than staying alive and feeding the children. And you’ll lose the vote.

Hear that Mr Bush. Sort Out Your Own Country first before trying to Leave The Planet. We are watching. We are judging. Election Day is coming.
