“FAILURES” 1 Nov 94 / 28 Oct 97
Playing at mummies and daddies
true love at thirteen
holding hands in school uniform
walking on frosty mornings
sneaking upstairs
when no one is looking
to kiss like Mum + Dad used to
before they hated each other
The love has gone
the child is here
our life is over
and another one has begun
In my mind I can see you perfectly
every breath that moves
each centimetre of skin
each tiny noise that escapes from
the soul within
your love in heaven
and I’m here alone
everything so perfect
but now I am an old man
with a memory of a life past
we can forget the rest
and I’m still in love with you
whatever that means
