“STATE OF DENIAL” 19 August 02

Living your life
in a state of denial
trying to connect it
but all decisions are final
live in the hope
that things can get better
instruct solictors
that follow you to the letter
caught and wounded
trapped and frightened
financial power is the law of survival
I’m unsure what constitutes virtue
sleeping with strangers
to gain worthless approval

This one moment
could last forever
a scar that will last
until heaven
your love evolved
became infection
and perverted
your better intentions

to think life is dispensable
is perfectly natural
carnivores consume the flesh
of God’s animals
trust is a weapon
we’re all raped by romance
now thousands of pounds later
we’re screaming for vengeance

shall we open our eyes ?
consider the virtues of compromise ?
or stay forever on our path
wondering whose laughter will be last ?
feeling the righteousness of the blind
unforgiving and for all time
whilst we span in orbit motion
our morals drown in the ocean
all players lose in the end
for pride destroys everything else in the world
