Set on September 11th 2001, the film recounts a day in the life of two brothers who live and work in New York. Ordinary American George Lincoln goes to start an ordinary day at work on a sunny Autumn day in the office. Fate has other plans. Meanwhile James Lincoln (played by BRAD PITT) is the head of the Fire Department at the 7th St by 4th St New York Precinct Fire Squad, and is called to the World Trade Centre one early autumn morning following a plane crash into the building.
Yet his brother, George, (played by Colin Farrell from �Minority Report�), is trapped inside the World Trade Center 1, NY10047, where he works. But in the other tower, World Trade Center 2, NY10048, his newly pregnant wife (played by Natalie Portman from �Star Wars�) can only watch in horror as her husband�s building is enveloped in flame and terror. Until another plane impacts just a few storeys above her office....
Torn between his brother and his wife, James Lincoln has no option. Does he go to save his brother? Or does he try to save the thousands of innocent new Yorkers? Or does he try to do both?... Charlton Heston plays the mayor of New York. James Woods plays the head of the New York Fire Department. And a cast of millions play new Yorkers united against the face of terrorism and disaster, showing the true American Spirit : Guts, Valor, and Glory.
Directed by native New Yorker Francis Ford Coppolla, this three hour film is the definitive retelling of the day when America united under a common spirit. This $400,000,000 epic, which also mixes existing footage with skilfully recreated scenes telling the story of the Worst Day in the life of Americans everywhere. And the American Spirit that will not die.
As a mark of respect for the dead, the end credits for this film have been replaced by a roll-call of the names of the deceased over a shot of the American Flag blowing in the wreckage of the towers, and accompanied by a solo rendition of "America The Beautiful" performed by Bruce Springsteen."
