
In 1993 the ATF and the FBI tried to raid Mt Carmel to take illegally modified firearms
and to check on potential claims of child abuse.
The Branch Davidians had baricaded themselves in and responded with fire to the ATF attempting
to enter the compound. However, the ATF and FBI may have fired first.
For 51 days; a stand off occured. Many attempts were used to get David Koresh and the
Branch Davidians to stand down. Negotiation, Loud Music, and Lights were all used, none worked.
After 51 days, Janet Reno gave permission to raid the compound. Tear gas was used on the buildings
and after an hour a flame started. The building burnt down, killing 80 Branch Davidians, including
25 children.
