KEVIN SO
Along the Way
Produced by Kevin So
I think artists that take the role of bridges to and from different viewpoints,
mindsets, and cultures don't always get enough credit. After all, trailblazers
often go unheralded. But So has something going on that I find compelling,
and I think he might be able to beat some of the odds stacked against him in
his chosen profession of singer-songwriter.
On this his third self-release, So mixes up live and studio recordings. He
wrote eight of the songs on this collection, covered one by Carl Cacho, and
co-wrote one with him as well. Kevin plays guitar, harmonica, and piano and is
backed by Stephanie Corby (background vocals), Eric Gerber (mandolin, slide
guitar, and background vocals), and Paul Erlich (piano on one track). He also
features a few spoken word pieces from his father which helps set the mood.
So is doing everything he can to keep out of his family's business while
honoring them at the same time. It's a balancing act I think everyone can
appreciate on at least one or two levels.
From the sound of this disc, I think he's doing a good job.
