This is an area that can aptly be called the Rim of the World. It is a narrow saddle in the mountains between two sides of the desert. Elevation is about 4000'. The back side we drive up from camp rises gradually for about 1000 feet. The front side that everyone is looking down in this picture is a very steep descent that drops down about 3000' or more feet. It was extremely windy up there on the day this photo was taken, and quite hazy too. We "guess-timated" that the wind was blowing around 70MPH with even stronger gusts every so often! It was blowing on our backs in this picture and I was very concerned that it was going to blow someone over the edge. At one point it gusted so strong that we all decided at once to get out of there without discussion. It was totally calm and quite clear the day before when a friend and I had scouted this place out.
