| Soft, fluffy, white snow fell outside as Mac peered out the foggy window. She couldnt believe what Billy had just told her. He was leaving to spend Christmas in New York! How could he do that, it was supposed to be their first Christmas together? Youre really leaving for Christmas, she asked finally, still staring out the window? Yeah, dad wants to spend it there and Ash and Jack are going too he said with excitement. Its been so long, I cant wait! Im sure youll have fun she replied, turning to face him. Is something wrong Mac, he asked? No, why would you ask that she lied. Well because you dont seem very excited for me he replied. No, Im just tired, thats all she replied. Are you sure, he asked as he took her hand. Yeah she said with a fake smile. She was lying and he knew it! The look in her eyes said it all. Well I know youre beat, so Ill head home, he said. He took her hand and walked to the door with her. Ill miss you tonight he said. I miss you every night! Mac smiled and tilted her head to kiss him. Ill call you in the morning he said after he finally broke the kiss. Ill be waiting she replied. Billy walked own the steps and into the cold night. She watched him climb into his jeep and then closed the door. Even though the house was warm Mac shivered and tears began to stream down her face. What was Christmas going to be like with Billy she wondered? Just then Brock walked in and saw her tear-stained face. Whats wrong Mackenzie, he asked with concern? But before he could get an answer Mac turned and hurried up the stairs without a word. Billy walked into his house and noticed his father sitting in the living room reading the newspaper. Well hello son John greeted. Where have you been? Ah telling Mac about Christmas in New York he replied. She didnt seem to happy even though she tried to be! Well I can understand why she would be upset, replied John. Yeah, but I want to go to New York said Billy. But I want to be with her too! Well you make the decision, said John. You know your mother would love to have you with her for the holiday and the family and I would understand! I know, but I cant decide, replied Billy. Well youre going to son, John said. We leave tomorrow night! I guess Ill sleep on it he replied. I think thats a good idea, said John. Night dad said Billy as he headed towards the stairs. Good night son, and remember its your decision replied his father. Billy frowned slightly and hurried up the stairs. He had a lot of thinking to do. Should he choose his family or the girl her loved? There had to be a way to do both! Maybe just maybe he said to himself as he thought of an idea! The next morning Billy awoke early to go talk to the person he knew could help him with his problem, there had to be a solution. As he drove down the road he thought of how unhappy Mac was last night! She wanted to be with him so bad and he felt the same way, but his family was important too. He pulled into the Macs drive way and hurried to the front door to escape the falling snow! Ester answered the door and said, Well hello Billy, youre here early! Im sorry but Macs not up yet! Thats okay, he said. Is Mr. Reynolds up? Yes hes in the dining room she replied. Thanks he replied as he headed towards the dining room. Mr. Reynolds, can I talk to you for a minute he asked? Oh hello Billy, sure sit down he replied. Whats bothering you? Well I need to talk to you about Mac said Billy. Okay said Brock waiting for Billy to continue. Well I need a favor, he said. Okay Im listening, said Brock! Im glad I could help you, said Brock as he shook Billys hand at the front door. Now youd better be going before Mac wakes up! Youre right, itd ruin the surprise Billy replied. Have a great Christmas Eve Mr. Reynolds! You too Billy he replied. Billy then turned and dashed down the front steps and into the falling snow. He hurried into his jeep and headed towards home. Now all he had to do was convince his father. The drive across town seemed endless, but finally he pulled up in front of his house. He walked into the house and founded everyone in a hurry to pack. Have you packed yet son asked his father. Im almost done Billy replied. Well hurry up we want to send our bags to the airport now to be loaded on to our jet said John. But dad can I talk to you for a second Billy asked. Sure what is it son he asked. Well said Billy. Ive worked something out with Mr. Reynolds and all I need now is your approval! Okay, what is the proposal John asked? That night Mac sat in a chair in front of the fireplace by the tree. She stared into the fire and wondered what Billy was doing. What are you thinking about darling asked Kay from the couch? Oh nothing Mac replied. Dont you like your gifts she asked. Oh yes grandma, theyre all wonderful more than I ever hoped for or deserve Mac replied. Oh dont be silly, said her father. You deserve all over them and more! Your fathers right said Kay. Now whats really the matter? I just wish said Mac. You just wish Billy was here, dont you asked her father? Mac shook her head and then turned back to the fire. Kay looked at the clock and said, Well I think Im going to head to bed! Me too agreed Brock. How about you Mac? Ah I think Ill stay here for awhile she replied. Could you turn the lights on your way out she asked? Sure darling answered Kay. They stood and flipped off the lamps and then walked up the stairs with smiles on their faces. Mac sat staring at the fire for quite awhile and just listened to the silence. Billy had been over earlier that afternoon and said goodbye. He hadnt given her a gift because he said hed give it to her later, which she found strange, but it was his gift to give. She stared into the flames and suddenly felt hands on her shoulders. Dad she asked. There was silence and she turned around in her chair and found Billy standing behind her. What are you doing here she asked in surprise. Im here to take you to the airport he replied. What for she asked. Because I want to spend Christmas with you he replied with a grin. But what about my family she asked? I already talked to your father early this morning he replied. Now are we gonna go or not? She let out a squeal and hurried into his arms. He wrapped them around her tightly and touched his lips to hers. I love you Mackenzie, he whispered. She pulled back and stared at him with tears in her eyes! I love you too Billy she replied and then kissed him deeply. This is the best present anyone has given me she said as they walked to the door. If you think this is your present then youre in for a surprise he laughed. Mac laughed too and then asked, What about my stuff? Your grandmother already packed it and its on the jet he replied. Is your family already there in New York she asked? Yep, its just you and me he replied. She smiled again and then climbed into his jeep. No matter what Billy said this was still the best present she could ever wish for! THE END |
