To take advantage of casts and charms in The Sims Makin' Magic,
you'll have to visit Magic Town to earn Magicoins and buy ingredients. For
non-magical Sims, they can buy items to cook, visit the snake charmer, and take
a spin on the rides.
Here's How:
1. As a Magical Sim: Magical sims can visit Magic Town by jumping
into the hole (magic portal) that came with the introductory box to magic.
2. Non-Magical: If you have Sims who are not magical, and do not have
the magic portal to Magic Town, you can take a balloon ride to Magic Town.
3. Use your phone to call the balloon taxi to Magic Town. A few
moments later, your Sim will be picked up.
4. Choosing the Lot: After you decide your method of visiting Magic
Town and complete the task, you will be presented with a screen of lots you can
choose from. Mouse over the lots to read a description of what the lot has to
offer.
Casting your 1st
Spell
When playing a house after the installation of "The Sims
Makin' Magic," the MagiCo Mystery Man will leave a starter magic box on
your doorstep. This box has everything you need to create and cast your first
spell.
Upon opening the box the Family Spellbook and Wand Charger will
appear next to the box. Add the other items in the box to your inventory. The
box comes with the ingredients needed to cast the Toadification spell. I should
also note now, that the more logic and/or mechanical skills a Sim has, the
greater the chance of a good outcome when casting a spell.
Click on the Wand Charger, and add Butter, Toadstools, and Toad
Sweat. After all 3 ingredients are in the charger, choose Charge Wand.
Now pick a Sim to cast your spell on. Click the victim, er.. Sim,
choose Cast and then Toadification. The Sim will then temporary turn into a
toad.
How many charges you have a cast depends on a Sim's cooking skill,
while how many casts from a charm depends on a Sim's mechanical skill.
Earning MagiCoins
Magicoins is the currency used in Magic Town to buy ingredients
you need to make casts and charms. You earn MagiCoins through magic
performances. You have 3 types performances available. They are: Side Show,
Spook Show, and Magic Trick Table.
Magic Trick Table
This show is a good way to start your magical career. There are three types of
tricks, a good trick, average, and bad. The result of your trick depends on how
many logic skill points you have. You need at least 6 to perform a good trick.
For a good trick you'll earn 11 MagiCoins, for Average trick 9 MagiCoins, and a
bad trick 5 MagiCoins.
Spook Show
In the spook show, you'll work with a mummy, dead Sims, and bring water to
life. Like the trick table, you will earn a different amount of MagiCoins based
your on performance. For a good trick you'll get 25 MagiCoins, average trick 15
MagiCoins, and a bad trick 4 MagiCoins. To perform a good trick you'll want at
least 7 logic skill points.
Side Show
Your performance at the Side Show depends on how many mechanical skill points a
Sim has. Seven skill points will result in a good trick. A good trick will earn
you 20 MagiCoins, an average will earn 11, and a bad trick will get you 4
MagiCoins.

Planting Sprigs
If you have the "Unleashed" expansion pack, you are
probably familiar with the techniques to growing vegetables in a garden.
"Makin' Magic" takes the same concept and makes it its own.
In Magic Town you can buy elderberries and grapes, or you can buy
the sprigs to grow them yourself. After buying the sprigs, you need to enter
build mode at the home lot, and buy a plot of garden. Your sim now has the
option to plant the sprig. After it is planted you need to weed and water it to
help it grow. A few sim days later you should have a harvest ready for your Sim
to use.
Making Nectar
Not only can you cast spells and charms in "The Sims Makin'
Magic," you can also make food! Nectar is one of those foods you can make
from grapes and elderberries, and a few other ingredients.
Here's How:
1. Plant or buy grapes and elderberries. If you decide to use the
plant method, harvest the berries before moving on.
2. Check the cookbook
to check to see which ingredients you will need, and make sure you have them.
3. Buy the Nectar Press if you don't already own it. Combine the
needed ingredients (example: grapes, grapes, sugar) buy clicking on the Press.
Make sure your Sim is not storing the ingredients in the cabinet, but in their
inventory.
4. After the ingredients are in the press, have your Sim use the
press to make the nectar.
5. Once the nectar is made, your Sim can put the end result in their
inventory.
6. You can also store the nectar in Taste of the Vine Nectar Bar.
This allows for other Sims besides the one who picks it up from the press to
make drinks.
Moving to Magic Town
Magic Town is the Studio Town, Vacation Island, Downtown, etc., of the "Makin' Magic" expansion pack. This time it is a little different. There are three residential lots that your Sim families can move into. In order, to move into a residential lot in Magic Town your Sims need to have 1000 (for one lot) or 1500 Magicoins.
Magic
Growth
Magic growth is a special reward for magical Sims. The game checks
often to see how many spells and charms have been cast on the lot. Once you
make 15 casts, magic growths will start growing. In Magic Town you only need to
make 10 casts.
Types of Magic Growth
Crystals are one type of growth that add another dimension to your
casting abilities.
Duels
In Magic Town, your magical sims can challenge other magical sims
to duels. At the end of the duel, you'll earn Magicoins, even if you lose. How
many coins you get depends on how many logic skills your opponenet has.
Spell Matchups
Watch the color of your opponents orb, by this you will be able to tell which
spell to use in order to beat them.

Dragons
Dragons are magical Sims pets. They do not require a lot of work,
but they will burn up your house if they are unhappy or a particular color.
Dragon Nests can be bought with 44 Magicoins from the All Things
Draconic stand. Dragon treats and toys can also be bought from the same stand.
It is wise to buy at least one of each while you are purchasing the nest, as
your Dragon will be happier with them.
When you arrive home, the nest with the Dragon egg will be placed
on the ground. During the next 2 days you will need to care for the egg. How
many times you interact with the Dragon will determine its colour and
personality.
Interaction Results
There is not a lot you can do with dragons. They enjoy being
groomed and tickled. After grooming a dragon, they may give you Dragon Scales.
Tickling your dragon may result in them giving Dragon Tears. Both ingredients
you can also buy at the Things Draconic stand too.
To keep your dragon happy, and less likely to put your house up
into flames, you should give them a pet treat and toy. When they are bored they
will play with the toy, instead burning up parts or all of your house
If your dragon won't stop burning up your furniture, it is
probably a good idea to set him/her free.
