Real life story with people enounters with Mandy Moore
On Saturday, May 6, 2000 at around 12:30 at night I had heard on the radio
that Mandy Moore was going to be doing an in-store autograph signing at the
HMV music store in New York City on Tuesday. I thought about going, but I
live in New Jersey, and don't know the city at all, so I figured it wouldn't
happen. So that night on Z100 they said the 100th caller would get a pass
that would guarantee them the first place in line for the signing. I
immediately picked up the phone and dialed away. After busy signals I
actually got through as caller # 33. I kept trying. And I eventually got
through again. Caller 98. I was pretty upset since I missed my chance by 2
callers. I would have rather been caller 1 than 98. I was so close, yet so
far away. I couldn't sleep that night. So I thought about it some more and
tried to figure out if I should try going anyway. I eventually decided that
I would go, despite not having any idea how to get there. HMV was giving out
laminants with the purchase of her new CD, that guaranteed you'd meet her and
get her autograph. This was only for the first 300 people though. The
signing was at 6, but I knew I had to get there early if I wanted to see her.
But I had to goto school cause it was the last week and I had finals. I
called HMV as soon as I got home, and they said they still had plenty of the
passes left. So I left ASAP. I was nervous, not knowing where I was going.
But I got into the city fine. Finding parking was another story though. So
I had to walk a little, no big deal. When I got to HMV, I immediately bought
the CD and got the pass. I then walked around the city for a while to kill
time. It was around 1 o'clock, so I had plenty of time to kill. At around 3
o'clock I went to the MTV building. TRL would be on in a half hour, so I was
hoping to see Mandy in the window. I stood out there with all the TRL fans
until I overheard some woman asking about guy Mandy Moore fans. This one guy
was like "Well what do I have to do?". I butted in and said I'd do it. And
they said they needed a guy to go up to the studio and ask her a question.
She asked if I was a fan, and I said yeah, but she didn't believe me. I told
her I knew all kinds of stuff about her and when she asked like what, I said
her birthday's April 10th. She said they needed someone energetic who wasn't
camera shy. So this woman is asking me to pretend she's Mandy and ask her a
question. Well, I froze under the pressure and couldn't think of anything to
say. When they saw that I was totally choking, they got someone else. I was
totally upset, I mean I could have been up there with her. But I blew it.
So I stayed and watched the window hoping to see Mandy. When she finally
came to it and waved to the crowd, it was the weirdest feeling in the world.
I couldn't believe how close I was to her. When she walked away from the
window I figured her segment was over and headed back to HMV to get in line.
There were a lot of people there at 4 o'clock. More than I expected. So I
waited for what would be the longest two hours of my life. Around ten to six
a limo pulled up and Mandy got out. It was hard to see her because there
were people in front of me, but again I couldn't believe she was right there.
Some more time went by. About fifteen minutes after six people started
going in. I was nervous and excited. Then when I got inside and downstairs
into another line, I saw her sitting there. As the line moved closer I got
more nervous. I didn't know what I was gonna say. Suddenly everything I had
planned to say had just left my mind. As I stood there looking at her I was
totally motionless, my eyes starting to tear up. Then I stepped up as the
next person in line to meet her. I knew this was it, that I was next. When
the other guy left I couldn't even bring myself to move at first. I
eventually managed to walk over to her. She said hi, and as I gave her the
CD cover to sign, all I could manage to say was "You Rock." She said "Thank
you, you rock", at that point I just froze. As signed it and I wasn't moving
or saying anything. I just stood there. I opened my mouth but nothing
seemed to come out. So I guess she didn't think I was going to say anything
else, so she said "Thank you for coming." At that point I unfroze and asked
one of these security guys if he could take a picture of us. He did !!! I
turned around, and as I was ready to leave I realized that this was my last
chance to say something meaningful to Mandy. So I turned back around, and
somehow managed to say, "You're beautiful, not just on the outside, you have
inner beauty." I was so disoriented at that point, because I couldn't
believe I said that to Mandy Moore, that I didn't even hear her response to
that. But by the look on her face, I'm sure it was good. I couldn't bring
myself to walk away. As I finally started to walk up the stairs, repeatably
looking back, I felt very sad and very happy at the same time. Happiness
because I met Mandy Moore, and sadness cause I had to leave her. In the end
it was all worth it though. I hope that one day I can look into her eyes
again, and maybe say a little bit more to her.
It all started at the end of May of 2000, I had the radio on Y100 and the DJ was informing everyone about a show they were going to have. There was six groups booked to be there and one them was Mandy Moore. The tickets were only 20 dollars and knowing this I thought the deal was great so I picked up the phone and called my friends to join me to go to the show with me. Well the show was going to be June 10 and I was all set to go, but then my two friends that where going to go with me got into a fight. So that put me in the middle and I didn't want to go alone so I had to pick between one of them, so I pick the one that was more of a fan of the same music that was going to be there. So then finally I got my ticket but my friend who was gonna come with me, informed me that same day that she hadn't got her tickets yet, because she didn't have money. This was two days before the show, so I started freaking out cause I didn't want to go alone. So I told my dad about the whole ordeal and he decide to get the ticket for my friend. So finally it was the day of the show, we left earily and by the time we got there the line was already going around the block and to top it off, it started to rain really hard. At that point I got upset I didn't want to stand in the rain all the way in the back of the line. Knowing that we were going to get bad seats if we waited all the way in the back my friend and I decide to run all the way in the front of the line. It wasn't easy for us to get from the back to the front running in the rain through groups and groups of people. But we finally got to the front, people were complaining about us cutting, but we didn't care we just wanted to get front row seats. Fianlly the doors opened and me and my friend jetted to the front row. We got there safe of sound and waited for the show to start. Throughout the whole show we had to stand up cause people ketp coming in our area so we didn't have leg room to sit down. So finally Mandy came on and it started raining again, so all the pictures I took of her came out dark. But it was pretty cool she was on our side of the stage most of the time, the girls by side us give us necklaces to throw at Mandy (don't worry it just hit her shoe or leg? hehe)but Mandy was all cool about it she just looked at us then smiled. Then after she was done with her singing, she looked at our little group of girls yelling out her name and said pointing at us."Before I go I want to give a shot out to my group of girls." After the show me and my friend couldn't feel our legs. But other then that the show was rocking, cause i got a shot out from Mandy!
We saw the BSB tour bus and freaked. We started to admire the busses when a thin blond girl stepped out of the bus in front of it. I (Amy) whispered to Stacy,"hey, I think that's Mandy Moore. " Stacy wasn't so sure. Lex, Stacy and Amy started to follow her and Stacy yelled, "Mandy!!" She turned around and waved. Now Stacy was convinced. The 3 of us stood there--shocked. Then we realized who it really was! We all started to run after her. Lindsey and Sam caught up to us. Lex yelled, "Mandy can we get your autograph?" She said, "I'll be right back," and she started to walk down the road, towards Union Station. We sat and waited a while. Then we decided to follow her. We went to Union Station and looked all over the place. After 20 minutes we gave up. We went outside to find Lindsey's mom who drove us and we got into the car. That's when her Mom dropped the bomb on us. She told us that when we were in Union Station, Mandy came outside and stood outside of the door for about 5 minutes and then went to site on the bench and tie her shoe. She stayed there for about 10 or 15 minutes. We were sooo upset! We got in the car and headed home, when we spotted a blond girl with a guy walking down the middle of the road--it was Mandy!! Lindsey's mom slammed on the brakes and we opened the door and jumped out. We were pushing and shoving eachother out of the car like maniacs. We all ran down the road screaming "Mandy" and "Can we have your autograph?" She turned around with a big smile on her face and said "Sure," and started signing and we were telling her stories about how we were chasing her around and how Amy (me) sang her song in 2 talent shows and on her demotape. Mandy looked up with a smile and said, "Oh that is sooo neat." Then Stacy said "Can we get pictures?" and she said, "Of course!" Then a whole bunch of other girls came up asking for autographs and pics. (We must have brought them all by Mandy, because they didn't know who she was before.) We must have started something. Her dancer took some pics of us, then he told Mandy she had to go. Now if anyone ever says Mandy Moore is a stuck up snob and she doesn't care bout her fans they are DEAD WRONG. She told her dancer "not now." She said, "I'm not going to leave until all of her fans had autographs and pics." How sweet is that? After we had all our pics and autographs we had to leave. (In a hurry!) We said "Bye Mandy, " and she was like "Bye! Thanks so much for everything guys!" When we left she was still there signing autographs- 10 minutes after her dancer told her to leave! What a loyal person! THANKS SO MUCH MANDY! Amy's E-mail
