One morning over coffee and muffins, Janey’s husband of 27 years told her he didn’t love her anymore. Yet, instead of wallowing, she made a commanding decision. She decided that being a widow was infinitely better than being a divorcee.

From Florence, Italy in the 1960s to Atlanta, GA in the 1990s, the life and loves of Janey Donovan are splayed out like so many of the canvases she’s graced. The good times—Malcolm, the love of her life—and the bad—the 27 years of her marriage that followed.

Joined by her alcoholic sister, her conniving lawyer, her best friend and a virtuoso for a hit man, she sets out on her course of action: the living personification of the Merry Widow.

Still Life chronicles Janey’s highs and very lows as she tries to make sense of the life she has been given.
