The fellowship award includes round trip air travel to Cambodia, funds for internal travel and accommodation, and a stipend ranging from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the length of time spent in Cambodia.

SOUTHEAST ASIAN STUDIES POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS AT UCLA. The Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for three one-year Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Southeast Asian Studies, two for 2001-2002 and the third for 2002-2003. An initial one-year fellowship under the same project has been awarded for 2000-01 to Eric Thomson. The Ford-funded project is aimed at building bridges between Southeast Asian Studies in the U.S. and Southeast Asia, and between Southeast Asian Studies and Asian American Studies. Accordingly, proposals for research that emphasize such links will be given special consideration. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. within the last three years which involves research on Southeast Asian populations. The base annual stipend is $33,000.

Apart from conducting their own program of research and writing in the relevant area in collaboration with a faculty mentor, the successful candidates will have modest responsibilities within the project, either to teach one ten-week course designed to be credited in Southeast Asian Studies and at least one additional field (e.g., a discipline or Asian American Studies), and/or to play a role in the planning of the project's colloquia and conferences. Applications should make clear how the applicant might teach such a course, or organize a conference, or in other ways contribute to the border-crossing aims of the project.

Applicants should indicate the precise dates of their availability for the fellowship. Please send applications, together with a c.v., three letters of reference, and examples of published or near-published work, to Professor Anthony Reid, Director, UCLA Center for Southeast Asian Studies, 11364 Bunche Hall, Box 951487, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1487, USA. Email inquiries may be directed to Professor Anthony Reid, [email protected], or Dr Barbara Gaerlan, [email protected]. Candidates will begin to be considered on February 15, 2001, although applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.
