SOUTHEAST ASIAN ARCHAEOLOGY
INTERNATIONAL NEWSLETTER

ISSUE NO. 1 OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 1992

This is the premier issue of the Southeast Asian Archaeology International newsletter and we wish to thank all of you who responded to our announcement. The purpose of this newsletter is to disseminate information on current research in Southeast Asia and other relevant information using an informal format. Through this newsletter we hope to encourage communication among archaeologists residing in different countries who share a research commitment to Southeast Asian archaeology. The deadline for the April-may, 1993 issue is April 1, 1993. Please send short research summaries, information on upcoming conferences and symposia, symposia paper abstracts, summaries of workshops. Recent publications, dissertations and theses, granting programs, etc. in English or you native language to the editors at the Museum of Anthropology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109 USA. Included with this issue is a directory of archaeologists working in Southeast Asia. Please notify us of any changes or additions you wish to make to the directory.

One suggestion sent in by Jill Thompson in that we include abstracts of papers on Southeast Asian topics presented at the major American conferences. We second her suggestion and invite you to send your abstracts form papers on Southeast Asian archaeology given at conferences held in any country. An effort will be made to include relevant abstracts from the upcoming Society for American Archaeology meetings in the next issue.

We wish to express our gratitude Dr. Henry Wright, Dr. Richard Ford, Dr. Victor Lieberman and Dean John D'Arms and to the following institutions for their generous support and funding of our first two issues:

-Museum of Anthropology
-Department of Anthropology
-Center for South and Southeast Asian SStudies
