Canskate Program Canskate is a learn to skate program, not a figure skating program. It is offered to both boys and girls who want to learn to skate. The program focuses on fun, participation and skill development as children progress through stages 1-7. Badges are awarded as each stage is successfully completed. Parents of Canskate children must have someone at
the arena that is responsible for your child while they are skating. i.e.
- if a child leaves the ice, the coach or program assistant cannot go with
them, they are responsible for other children on the ice. Skaters in stages 5, 6 & 7 are eligible to
compete at the Junior Provincial Competition held in March. If you require
further information on this competition or have any questions on the
Canskate Program please contact Jennifer Felthem.

Program Assistants are vital to the success of the Canskate Program. These assistants receive a training session offered by our professional club coach free of charge & the club covers the cost of insurance. If you are interested in volunteering as a program assistant ( PA ), with our club this year, please contact Jennifer Felthem.
Skater Development is about providing your child with every opportunity possible to improve and perfect skating skills. Terra Nova Tornadoes Skating Club is committed to providing every skater with opportunities to improve skating techniques. Our club is skating for its 8th season, and we offer all skaters 2 sessions per week. This keeps our club affordable to everyone and is often enough if your child is skating for the love of skating and has no desire to skate in competitions. When we skate at competitions our children are often competing with children that skate 3-5 sessions per week, doing 2-3 off ice sessions per week, combined with private lessons. To provide children of Terra Nova Tornadoes equal opportunity to compete with children from other clubs we have a list of opportunities that your child may participate in.
