| About us: Nepal is a landlocked country that is situated in south eastern Asia. It is surrounded by India and China. It has an area of 147,181 square kilometres. It is a kingdom made up 75 district. The country is divided into 5 development regions as well as 14 zones. The capital city is Kathmandu which is in the central development region. My hometown is Hetauda. It is southern part of Nepal. Nepal has a population of more than 20 million. The country is mostly mountanious. It is covered by the Himalayas, the Mahabharat range in the north and the Terai (plains) in the south. Mount Everest is the highest peak in the Himalayan range. About 85% of land is covered by hills and mountains. There are more than 36 different languages in Nepal. Nepali is the National language that is spoken by more than 56% people. Other major language are Tamang, Magar, Newary, Sherpa, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tharu, Rai etc. In urban areas English is the main religion, accounting for more that 85% of population. Other major religious are Buddhism, Kiratism and Islam. There are also mome christians in Nepal. Tourism is one of the major industries of Nepal. Many tourists visit Nepal to enjoy the natural beauty of the country. More than 85% people depend on agriculture for livelihood. |
