Introduced 1805
This pattern smooth bore of Gun was first
produced in 1787. It was brought into service by Thomas Bloomfield the
Inspector of artillery at Woolwich. It was an important improvement in
gun design at the time of introduction and originally was produced as a
naval weapon. By the time of the Crimean war it was mostly relegated to
land service and many ended their days providing flanking fire in forts.
Some were still in use in 1900.
